Do you want to learn How to Process Emotions and improve your Mental Health? Sign up for a Therapy in a Nutshell Membership, you'll get access to all of Emma’s courses, workbooks, and a Live Q and A with 100’s of exclusive videos: courses.therapyinanutshell.co...
Learn more about the course here: courses.therapyinanutshell.co...
Welcome to the Free Online Anxiety Course! In this course you’ll learn why you have anxiety, what you do that makes it worse and how to break the cycle of anxiety so that you can take back your life. This course is going to have 30 sections, and I’m going to publish them all the KZbin, but the entire course with full exercises, workbook, Q and A’s with Emma, will be published on my website. You’ll get early access, and you’ll learn to stop the anxiety cycle and get back to living the life you dream of.
How’s your relationship with anxiety? Does it drive you crazy? Does it get in the way of living your life? Do you get stuck worrying and feeling all sick to your stomach or sweaty? When you get all codependent with anxiety it can really mess up your life.
In this course you’ll learn how to transform your relationship with anxiety, you’ll learn how to drop the struggle with anxiety and set boundaries on your worries so that you decrease your worry by 75% or more. You’ll learn how to stop overthinking and get back to enjoying yourself. You’ll learn how to handle that inner critic so that you can maintain your sense of self, let go of doubts and work through fears.
Just like with difficult family members, you can learn the skills to show your anxiety compassion, to listen to what it has to say, but don't believe everything it says, and live your own life the way you choose- a life that you value that is rich and meaningful.

The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.

My relationship with anxiety is getting better since I started the CBT treatment, before I was in psychoanalysis and it didn't work that well. Now I am learning about how the brain works, reading books on the topic, listening to podcasts (especially The Happiness Lab, that I would recommend to everyone). I learned to keep really calm when the symptoms show up and just wait them to cease. When we understand the mechanisms behind anxiety all turns out a lot easier. One thing that helped me a lot was to accept that anxiety just won't go away, it is part of being human, especially when you had difficult experiences growing up and your brain learned to be defensive almost all the time. It helps to think that its(the brain's) only intention is to protect me, but it doesn't always get things right, it relies too much on past experiences and turns out predicting wrong many times. I need to have patience with it and teach it that not everything is dangerous and that we are safe and can keep it cool. 😊

could be that you bipolar (lithium deficiancy) you dont have to deal with anxiety. there are really effective natural compounds like rhodiola rosea with 3%salidrosides, SAMe or lithium oratate. i used to go to therapys and it worked but only mildly and took alot of time that i could put into something else. its worth checking them out. these supps were lifechanging for me.

Thank you so much for this. My anxiety has been so debilitating the past weeks or even months now, that it evolved into panic attacks, prolonged anxiety attacks with severe nausea, agoraphobia and (so far) mild depression. I am trying my best to get a therapist but the waiting lists are 6-9 months long on average, and sometimes even longer. I can't wait that long. It's preventing me from looking for jobs and going to job interviews. So this comes exactly at the right time. Thank you so much, seriously. I hope you know how many people you're helping with this.

Experiencing the same. I asked my doctor for Zofran for the nausea. Took me nearly a year to get in with a cognitive behavioral therapist. Also, need medicine like Sertr@l!ne.

I can relate....check out "Better Help", Emma recommends them and I have a friend that found her therapist with them and is happy with her...online, but better than nothing, and it saves you from driving there. It's important, take the step. I can relate to your pain...I have the same symptoms. Luckily I found a good therapist, who is also online. Makes life simpler as I can't drive again yet due to panic attacks and lightheadedness. Please try them out.

@@francesca333 Thank you! I've heard about BetterHelp and was considering them, but unlike an in-person therapist, my health insurance wouldn't cover it. Since my anxiety is preventing me from really working on getting a job, I can barely afford it at the moment. If I find a job though and still no therapist, I will most likely try BetterHelp. It's good to know that option is there and legit, so thank you! Hope everything's well with you!

@@laureng8624 I have medicine for nausea but they make me extremely sleepy and I don't wanna take medicine for a symptom, when I know the root cause is something completely different :(. When the nausea is getting to bad I take them though. I've also been using CBD Oil for a bit now and it genuinely changed things for the better. My anxiety is still debilitating at least once a week, but it's not daily anymore and I'm convinced it's because of the oil.

You are so woderful. Thank you for this loving way of talking about anxiety not only as something nobody has to be ashamed of, but as some kind of trial to deal best with social situations. Often that "best" cannot be acomplished in an anxious way. But it feels so much better and easier to lift my anxiety, if I realise that it's not just some bad trait but a sign of me subconsciously trying to give my best. That is something I can find alternative approaches for without falling into that circle of fearing my anxiety.

Anxiety and avoidance have played a huge (negative) role in my life so far, but every year I am dealing with it better than the year before. There is an upward trend! However, there is a need to keep practicing mindfulness, skills, habits and (conscious) behaviours to keep debilitating anxiety and avoidant choices at bay. In a few weeks I will go into my new clinical rotations of medical school. This course will be a great help to help me flourish in this new phase of my life! Thank you, Emma. I am deeply grateful for the work and help you are providing. :-)

Hii, i'm 21 years old and I've been struggling with anxiety since I was 6 years old. I've been going therapy since I was a kid and it has really helped but recently my world is moving too fast cause of the usual troubles of becoming a well adjusted adult. I think your videos have helped me a lot to understand my anxiety . I usually look around for means to learn more and have a more peaceful life and recently I've been recomended the book "Feeling Good" by David Burns. I wondered if you knew about this book and if you recomend it to people that may struggle with anxiety. Thanks you for the work you do with this channel!!

😂 I loved the acting Great analogies too! 👌 I learned that humans are relational creatures and so is everything in nature. Which is why most trauma stems from relational "jarring". Everything, including the things you touch, like a pen or your phone, and everyone we interact with becomes a relationship in our world. This is why some people can get visions/insights when holding a crystal or a drawing or a piece of wire. It's because of the relational nature of EVERYTHING. TRANSFERENCE is something very real. I won't go into detail but I'll just say that organic transference is the reason why yogis salute you by putting their hands in prayer pose. They don't shake hands, they don't hug, they don't kiss. Acknowledging that we are relational creatures allows us to gain distance from the subject/matter. I am one whole and the other thing, thought, person is an add-on and in terms of anxiety, the add-on could have been "implanted" in us from an early age. We need to discern what is of value to our life experience and what's just noise, other people's voices and opinions we have internalised. One of the reasons why it is so hard to let go of anxiety is that we tend to identify with it. It gives us an identity too or it becomes a big part of it. So, even when we are healing and making progress, the sole idea of getting to know ourselves authentically, or the new me that emerges from every layer we peel throughout our healing journey, can be scary, mainly because it's new or long forgotten. However, if we are committed to the journey and keep at it, without stressing, overtime we may learn to enjoy that feeling of insecurity when contemplating the glimpses we get from the new emerging me, the me without anxiety. It's kind of exciting in fact. Motivating and sobering. I find. Thanks for the work you do. Great video. It made me think

I love how you made it funny. :) It's so relatable to hear that voice of doom saying very matter-of-factly that everything's always going to be awful and actually it'll probably get worse (definitely like a news reporter just spitting facts). I hope in the future when that voice activates in me, I'll see it like you portrayed it, just me in a news reporter costume, talking into a banana, giving it my best as an actor.

Something about your anxiety character really reminded me of some actual people I've encountered when trying to be in a new place and that's helpful because you realise fairly quickly how counterproductive listening to those people can be... and often that they're pretty insecure themselves.
