I got a chuckle out of this video! My husband bought me a fancy Baby Lock about 20 years ago for my birthday. I grew up sewing on my mom's Kenmore - that machine was so easy to use. My mom became the 4H leader when I was in 4th grade so I learned to then. By high school I was making all kinds of fancy fashion clothing that I wore to school (and altering my clothes to fit as I am short and have to hem everything). I made a new outfit every week as that was how I spent my free time! I still did some sewing as an adult (before kids), but I never learned to use many of the features of the Baby Lock and it seemed so finicky. Had to do just as you did, took it to the sewing machine store. They lectured me about regular maintenance/oiling and not buying the "cheap" thread. They did maintenance and wanted to give me lessons. I don't sew much anymore, but still do clothing repairs for the family with the Baby Lock, which is still finicky.

When I bought my first SLR camera I actually sat down with the instruction manual and the camera and went through the features to learn because it was so different to a simple camera. I also took a photography class to force myself to get familiar with using it. It was so worth it and I learned so much as my teacher was a professional photographer. We even had critique sessions after photographing in the “wild”. Both on technique and creativity. So worth it. Thanks for the reminder

I clean my machines every day after finishing sewing for that day. I really take care of all my working tools. Have I ever read instructions for any of my machines? No. Not proud of it ;) But I get so many lovely surprises every time I find a new feature :)

What you say is very true, we take things for granted and we do not see the possibilities we have. Thank you

You only need to take it in for servicing if you don't know how to troubleshoot any problems you have with the machine

I forced myself to do it! It wasn't so bad, the other women there talked abotu their lives so it was drama.

My wife had the same problem. Her sewing machine ran like a 100-year old Ford Model A. I don't know anything about a sewing machine. But I cleaned hers out with compressed air and oiled it up with 3-in-1. She was amazed. I've got a similar situation with Pinterest. I'm trying to get Pinterest working for me. The problem is, I can't get to the parts to clean and oil them. For me, it's strictly trial and error. Should I spend a couple of hundred dollars and hire someone to look at my account?

Sign up for my class, it's only $39 and it will probably straighten it out for you. And we have a Facebook groupplus mnthly live workshops to ask questions. It's better to DIY this kind of thing otherwise you're reliant on someone forever when they have to fix what they did to your account and you don't know what they did. classes-by-a-cake-to-remember-llc.teachable.com/p/pinterest-for-product-based-businesses
