Brian: "I have to talk you all into doing something, something I know we need to do. And I don't know how to talk about it." The Governor killing Hershel destroyed us, we loved him so much, we knew that his death was somehow inevitable, but honestly that really hit where it hurts. On the other hand we will not regret "Brian", he could have had a more brutal death after all he's done but this was as satisfying as it gets on this show. We kind of imagine now that the next part of this season will be following the different groups formed after the prison destruction, hoping that they find each other again. Yeah, this was a tough one, I actually remember watching this episode. I always use my A50 7.1 surround headphones when I watch my shows, they're very loud, & if I talk with them on, well, I TALK REALLY LOUD!! LOL.. My point? When I was watching this episode, with my headphones, I was yelling at the TV, as I often do when I get swept up in the story, or action, etc. But when 'Brian/Philip/Governor/Awful Jackass, with no EYE for art, as seen in the fish tanks...(Hmm, it just occurred to me that Brian really likes tanks of any type!... Fish tanks, Army tanks, his walled community tanked, badly, & most important, when he's upset, or just pissed, which is often, it's, "NO 'TANKS, Hershel, we cannot live with Rick & his people!!!" 🤘🤪🤣👍 I went a long way for that one, hopefully it's not too much of a DAD joke, lol! Anyway, catch ya next time!! ...Oh, I also meant to tell you something,... 'TANKS' FOR MAKING THESE REACTIONS!!! AND 'TANKS' FOR THE MEMORIES!!!🤘🤪LOL! ...Ugh, went too far on that one...should've quit while I was up. Oh well, you know what they say... "THEMS THE TANKS." 🤘🤪🤔🙄😵🤞

I watched the series with my mom and my dad would occasionally join, and he joined us for this episode. The title of the episode, "Too Far Gone", is mentioned by Rick during his talk with The Governor. Rick believes that they are not "too far gone" to come back from the things they have done. This sentence was said to Rick before by Hershel. And at the end of the episode a walker is seen walking over a 'King' chess piece that Meghan had drawn the eyepatch on. This signifies The Governor's death as he had lost the battle and typically in chess when you lose or forfeit you knock over your king piece.

i absolutely lovee how at the beginning hershel says to the govenor that they can live together, and rick later echoes that, hershels smile at rick is so sweet he was such a good mentor for rick and taught him that they can be better - hershel had amazing character development, going from a denying the apocalypse and caring only for his family, to putting his safety on the line for the rest of the community and being one of the leaders, as much as i wanted him to live forever im glad he died here as his character was kinda complete and his death was soo impactful

An amazing episode and reaction! This part of the comics is one of the best arcs in the whole series. In the comics, the Governor actually captures Tyreese and beheads him in front of everyone. Not only does he die during his attack so does Axel, Patricia (Otis’s GF), Hershel and his son, Lori AND Judith went Lily shot her from behind. Lily gets mad at the Governor for making her shoot them and then instantly shoots him and throws him to the walkers. It’s a very emotional and heartbreaking arc that had a lot of fans upset.

I'm so glad Rob talks about context because it's 100% true and the show explores that more down the road. It's easy for us to side with our heroes because we know their story, we know their struggle, it's intimate, but that doesn't mean they're always the good guys in every situation. It's great food for thought that goes over the heads of the average viewer.

Comic Comparisons : in the comics It’s Tyreese who gets decapitated his comic counterpart is actually introduced much earlier than in the show before they get to the farm the battle for the prison goes down a bit different The Governor is presumed dead for a while before he randomly shows up at the prison gates It should be noted that the Governor never kills all of his people or burns down Woodbury so he still had an army with him him becoming Brian Heriot is completely unique to the show I can’t remember exactly but I think their first attack failed Nonetheless they eventually bust through and kill a lot of people Hershel does die in this battle in the comics but not in the same way He begs to be killed after his son is shot right in front of him and the Governor grants him that Rick tries to escape with Lori and Judith but Lori who is carrying Judith is shot and falls to the ground killing both her and the baby after the Governor successfully wins the prison Lily who was already a member of Woodbury and dealt the killing shot on Lori realizes she also killed a baby and gets mad at the Governor when the Governor shows no remorse she shoots him dead in the head after that nothing more is said about the Woodbury group.

As you can imagine, this is a big game changer for the show !. The prison is destroyed, Hershel & baby Judith are dead and the group is broken up without knowing each other’s location :(. Been waiting for this one for awhile, very happy it came out on my birthday! The tank, the final shot, even the dialouge from that shot is all from the comic. To some extent the Governors death is too, though he's shot by a woman called Lily in the books, a character whose backstory was filled out by novels. Also in the comic, spoilers for anyone who wants to read it (but I warn you, its rough at times) - - - - - - this is where Lori dies in the comic. Her and Judith are killed her, with Lori being shot though Judith. Its brutal, though Lily, the woman who kills them both and no idea who shes aiming at and when she finds out shes incredibly pissed, to the point of killing the Govenor. Its a brutal ending to Lori, though her ending in season 3 is also pretty brutal, just in a different way. Its also real brutal for Judith. Loving the reactions, looking forward to the second half of the season, its a highlight of the whole show for me. Extra note: Hershals death in the comics is kind of Axels death I guess? hes shot in the yard, also someone else gets Hersehls death in the comics but don't really want to say who until some time later.

14:27 Right there. She was too stunned to see Children Actually killing to do anything. Lovely shot. 16:20 The Legend of Judith Grimms..... #NoSpoilers You guys are sooooo LUCKY you don't have to wait weeks and months for the next episode. I saw this one when it aired and it killed me not seeing the next one right away.

The most shocking thing about this episode was sweet Trin using bad language multiple times. This world changes everyone.

I’ve been waiting weeks to see both your reactions on this episode and let me tell you, you did not disappoint 😁

I loved your reaction! Especially Trin’s, it reminded me of how exactly I felt and screaming at the TV when everything went down. And then realizing waiting a few months for the next episode. Enjoy the ride, more to come!

Saw this episode so many times, i'm always shocked and in tears, R.i.p Hershel 😢

Now we go forward with no voice of reason. No moral compass. The group is on its own. The best we can do is hope everyone has absorbed as much of Hershel's wisdom and gentleness as possible.

Rick isn’t spineless, and he got beat up because he has just been shot in the leg affecting his balance. Not to mention still had a broken hand from the Tyrese fight. Might as well throw in he was up all night fixing a fence and then killing walkers.
