I helped with a huge pour back in 1978 with 2% calcium Chloride in the mix and did not wear gloves. No one told me that my hands would be suede leather by the next day. That was a good warning to put in with the video. Thanks Tom.

I started with my dad full time after high school doing concrete of course the earliest I remember when I was 9. I’m 70 now and he always was short on ordering concrete so when I took over for him I did the opposite and always ordered more. We specialized curb and gutter later with the machine side walk cross gutters that’s why I love your channel because it’s all new to me. In closing I wish I had a mentor like you oh well I did the best I could. God bless and happy new year.

Today's video showed me that no matter how good your math is and how many years experience under your belt, it's hard to order the exact amount of concrete. That was so close, though, 1 1/2 wheelbarrows. Wow! It's great to see that attention you put on every detail. Your fingers put the concrete smooth and perfect inside the door track where the float couldn't touch. You told us about the air content. There's something over my head yet. You explained low and high, but I can't see that in my mind. I really like seeing the steam rising from the concrete from the pour to the top of the mixer. The hopper really had the steam rising up out of it. You gave good advice w the rubber gloves. In the manufacturing of copper and fiberoptic cable, a type of grease is used and is quite difficult to remove. For years, we kept a container on each line that a toxic liquid in it we called 629. So stupid! That is so toxic! It goes through the skin, into the blood, and causes cancer. We finally caught on, and today, there are 3 sizes of latex gloves on each line and all places where they are needed. We do stupid things. Kudos for that safety tip and all the others you've given us. It never hurts to be reminded to be safe and not stupid. It sure looked cold on all of today's pours. It is time to end the season. For us fans of your channel, that means we get to enjoy the off-season projects. Last year's was terrific. Thanks for today's video. I'll be watching for your next post. 👍❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

Think of the air content of the mix as the holes in a sponge. The bubbles allow the moisture some space to expand when it freezes. More air in mix, more and bigger bubbles. And the bubbles are real small.
@mikebarushok5361
@mikebarushok5361 Жыл бұрын
Less than a sixteenth of an inch of variation of the depth, over that large of an area can result in needing more concrete. OR - just a little less water can do the same thing. BUT - in this case I would bet that the low air mix gave less volume from the weighed out load into each truck. Might be worth going back over notes and videos to see if ordering low or no air, for machine trowelling, needs a tiny correction factor to not come out short.

Tom, It's been hours since I left a comment. Was just looking at some other of my channels I watch and had a concrete guy come up. Neighbor come out rather upset and started cussing at this fellow and needless to say he returned the courtesy. Wanted so much to give him your you tube channel and thought why. Some construction guys are just rude and rough. Let em go. Told him I watched his channel twice today. First and LAST. Guess I'm just use to decent guys that show integrity and quality in their work. Tom, Ron here with my usual comments and questions. This gives you a chance to move to the next comment. I'll take a sip of Diet Dew and get back. Still here, 1st comment is while I know I'll never have any of these nice homes you work on and all the extras I got to tell you that garage(?) is freakin killer. Anyone that doesn't turn that into a woodworking shop is just wrong😂😂😂. What a space---WOW!!! They have more in that building then I have in my house. Who says money can't buy a little happiness 😊😊 I assume the owner will insulate since they went to the expense of in floor heat. Is it possible to or have you ever poured a floor with the heating already operational??? Any idea as to the cost of a new front end mixer truck?? Wild guess--$250--300,000?? Like always, just curious. As always you and your guys kill these big projects without a single issue or comment of being tired. I've been watching pretty much from day 1 and look forward to each episode. At 67, my working days are pretty much over. I still help my son in the spring and fall with lawn aerations and try to do most of the maintenance work. Not all, but most. Until the next video, stay safe, stay warm and know that you have a bunch of loyal viewers out here.

Yep winter is blowing in, getting stronger and stronger. Not long BIG SNOW will come. Planning for spring huh? Hey might do some counter tops in your garage. Wedding stuff, patio stuff as well. Like the video as always. I remember the cracked hands, corn huskers worked pretty good, then others said Bag Balm comes in a green cube, BUT gloves were the best. Real good advice, i remember cracked hands and fingers, that Alkali in the concrete would make ya suffer, lots water, cold blowing winds... o those were the days. Thanks for the commentary, and advice - save a lot of hands and fingers from cracking and bleeding. :)

Great work, I didn’t see it on the video but just curious if you took a wheelbarrow out and got everything out of the hopper? I watched someone have concrete poured and they worked it themselves. They were troweling it when it was really wet. I was screaming to myself "watch Concrete with the Hauses! It's to wet! Let it setup more!" I think you said if you work it to early then it doesn't set right and you work the moisture back in and it weakens the concrete. Is that right?

Merry Christmas to you! And why don't you vibrate the concrete so that there are no voids?
@mikebarushok5361
@mikebarushok5361 Жыл бұрын
Generally only needed when pouring significant depth and even with taller steps it might be only cosmetic and not worth the higher risk of forms shifting. On structural walls and some ( deeper ) footings vibration is necessary. On jobs where I worked we often used just pressing the back of an orbital sander to the forms to reduce honeycomb on steps over two feet tall. But just tapping with a rake or hammer and making sure corners are filled by plunging in with a float is plenty. We didn't pour monolithic steps the way Tom does. We created an inner form filled with sand, because around here sand is very cheap and concrete, when pigmented, can easily exceed $300 per yard. So, getting a couple of feet vertically to fill well between the inner and outer forms does require using the stinger.
