Something so simple and easy to check may prevent future loses of lambs at just a few days old.

Then giving the enema and telling the ewe, “That’s not very tasty, mom” as she cleans her lamb’s rear. 😆 Great info about the kind of wool the sheep have. Will you be selling Kasanova if he produces a lot of open wool lambs? 🐑 It looks like Little Mister is out-growing his sweater, lol. Good for him! 💛 Lynn, I know you mentioned the daily growth of the Suffolk lambs before, but wow they are bulking up like crazy! Beautiful sight. 🥰

No, we will be keeping Kasanova because he has a lot of traits we like. As for open wool it is not a good time of year to judge wool qualities after lambing. Wool loosens with stress. Best to judge prior to breeding fir a more accurate evaluation 🙂

Very helpful information today Lynn and Arnie!! Poor little lady felt much better afterwards!! I once watched a lady massage a tiny baby goat to remove the meconium. Had she have known to use the warm water enema the treatment would have worked so much better. Thanks for a great video!! Stay safe!!🙏❤

I tried to Google bloody colostrum to find out exactly what’s going on there. I didn’t find what I was looking for but I did find something else. Apparently even if a ewe is treated for mastitis and recovers, she can carry the bacteria that were causing it and pass it on to other ewes. Strict culling reduces the rate of mastitis. (Not that you have a lot of mastitis, I just thought it was interesting.) I don’t watch your neighbour’s videos any more but I thought of her when Arnie was demonstrating enemas. I don’t think I ever saw her performing enemas. Another advantage of not CIDRing is that you have time and attention for those extra details like tube feeding and enemas. Your neighbour might be able to pay for extra help to replace her labour in the fields if she spread lambing out and increased survival a bit, but doing fieldwork together seems to be important to their marriage. That’s worth a lot too.

We Cidr our ewes and tube feed every lamb (thanks to Lynn) I believe I know who your referring to but she’s not Lynn’s neighbour. That lady is know where near the experience of Ewetopia. We all can learn everyday something new. Even with my own flock try new things! 🤭

There are some types of mastitis that are really contagious but in order for others to get it, they must be in contact with the discharge say from tubing or stealing. It is not airborne 🙂

Can the density of the wool be affected by diet and health through a wool growth cycle? When I’m choosing a fleece for fiber processing, I’ve been taught that fiber quality has a lot to do with the ewes health and diet through the year. I had not realized it could have so much to do with the specific genetics. I learn so much by watching this channel. 😊

Genetics play a part for sure and breed. Nothing in this world is black and white. Nutrition, lice/mites, stress, etc all play a part in wool quality
