Ooooh Lynn and Arnie, in the years I have been watching that is by far the wettest, muckiest the coveralls/barn has ever been. Not an issue easy to solve I see. At least 12 mths ago you had some heavy conversations regarding your futures, workload etc. as a result you have implemented a number of strategies and they are/have paid off in abundance. Heavy culling is tough but the impact on your workload if this is not done and the Źmortality rate of ewes and lambs during lambing has shown the tough decisions were worth the painBoth of you are happier, mhealther and far less stressed. Bravo for prioritising the animals and yourselves. And finally the added bonus is a higher quAlity flock for 2025.
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Thanks Susan. Little steps but you are right, this year our mortality rates are zero for live animals with only a few born dead. Oh, actually we did have one lamb that was born twisted and died. We still gave a long ways to go yet this lambing season, but so far it has been a stellar year. I hate to jinx it by talking about it so soon 🙂

Good afternoon Arnie and Lynn. Wow rough day today. Aww cuteness overload. Watching lambs at plat is never boring. It is good for the soul. And a tour of the sheep in the coveralls is always interesting. Learn something each video. Had cataract surgery today. All went well. Stay dry as possible. Big big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️ 0:27

The ewes at the troughs all lined up…such a relaxing sight. 😊 Goodness, the bottle babies are growing! Little Mister is almost the size of the little guy beside him. Are they the same age or is the one on the left older? 💛 The staggered birthing is the best. Not only does it give you both time to breathe and take your time with the ewes, but it also gives us out here more time to see the wee ones in the jugs. 🥰 It must be sad knowing you need to cull the ewes with udder problems, and likely Hunchie too. But that’s farm life, sigh. 😔 I hope your ice has melted but not too fast so it has time to evaporate and not drain into your barns. Yikes. Stay safe, both of you! 💙
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Actually, Mister is the older one but you have to remember that he is a triplet and the other guy is a single. It is always sad to have to cull animals but we can't survive by keeping animals that can't produce because this is our livelihood. Now, if I won the lottery, things would be different! 🙂

Be careful walking on the ice. What if you carries a walking stick to help with balance? Good to see more lambs coming

It's amazing how quickly the lambs grow!! I can remember from years past you having quite a few bottle babies at one time, so 4 isn't bad at all. Considering that half of those are just top up🙏❤s, that number is awesome!! Thanks for sharing and stay safe!!
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Yes, better than before but now we're heading into the next group so it is inevitable that those numbers will increase. Hopefully not too much!🙂

Sorry about dealing with the weather…you’re right it’s either one thing or another. Glad this years breeding plan is giving you a better paced lambing and some breaks.
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Yes, we truly can't complain about the weather. It's been weird but in general warmer than usual which withe the more drawn out schedule has made lambing more comfortable for all concerned 🙂

The Suffolk lambs enjoy racing. The Dorset lambs commit to achieving a personal best. (At least, that’s what it looks like today.) Does the ewe with the bitten teat have triplets or were you just using her as an illustration?
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
She only has a single so a bitten teat is unusual. She was my example 🙂

I didn't really understand what Arnie was talking about with the crooked legs.
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Sometimes when lambs are first born, the legs or feet can be a little bent. After a few days, tendons stretch out and legs straighten back to normal

6:20 May I ask what brand boots you are wearing (green) during the bottle feeding scene? Always watch every video you post. Thanks! 🎉🎉🎉
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
The Green ones are Nat's. I can't remember where I got them but are rated for -50°C and I hate cold feet. In warmer weather I wear Grubs Frostline which are really comfortable and can be purchased online

@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
No, there are stragglers from the first group still going to lamb. They are all the ones at the back of the barn. All of group two are in what we call the old heifer barn. That's how you can tell the groups apart in the videos
