Great video! Great lesson! I’ve been working on this. It was actually videos I took of myself shooting the lead me to notice I was clinching my bow at release, and I have a sling. So I started shooting open handed, it helped a lot. Then I saw comments about that being wrong, I think because I was extending my fingers which puts tension in your hand so I went back to putting my fingers on the riser very gently. After watching you demonstrate your grip it clicked on how to shoot with an open hand while having it relaxed. I really need to start practicing with a blank bail and eyes closed so I can just feel the shot. Thank you Josh!

Wow! I found a REAL solution to my problem! I’m doing exactly what he was doing in this video. I wish I could send arrows down range every day, but I’m a long haul trucker. When I am home, I do shoot as much as I can. Usually about an hr or so. I do 3 arrows at 20 sets. I don’t want to burn out, but get the reps in and be consistent. Ax a new shooter, I feel that’s the best for me right now. MFJJ, you ROCK, my man! Thanks, bro! 👍🏻👍🏻

That is, without doubt, the best explanation and remedial walk through of archery grip I have ever seen. I'd been target pistol shooting for years before I picked up a bow, and high end target pistols have amazingly chunky, sculptured, multiply adjustable or custom carved grips, such that there really is only one way to hold it. It's highly repeatable. I struggled with archery because to me, the grips were absolute shite, until I learned this lesson; they're not grips and you're not meant to grip it.

Ok, I hold a bow the same as this young man does, and JJ explains the torque changes with that high wrist grip. Now that explains why my groups change over time. I have been trying to figure this out, and I keep blaming it on fatigue, moving the sight. I'm such a newbie and I've been shooting for 25 years.

I want to thank you for this honest video. I recently picked up a new bow and Ive been struggling with the comfort of the grip. I just went out and shot a round of 12 with my fingers wide open, just using my palm against the grip. Not only was it more comfortable, but my groups were tighter. It was weird at first as I kept feeling the bow was going to fall when I was drawing back, but I just had to have confidence that wasnt going to happen and get used to it. Thank you again!!!
