Workplace performance declines in toxic work environments. If an employee is performing fine and then it changes.....look at the management team. They have likely acted from a point of suspicion, hardness, or been overly critical of an employee. Playing mind games, collecting dirt, and flatout fear mongering is something poor leadership does!!!

Two days ago a coworker slandered another and when I called her out on it she turned into a really mean spirited megalomaniac. Screamed in my face and attacked my ego and my employer didn't even do anything about it. The manager just stood there and watched. It's the most toxic job I've ever had. There's a group of women who have banded together, brainwashed the boss and has him alienating myself and a couple other key workers. They're trying to take advantage of the boss by telling him that myself and the other guys are the ones taking advantage by blaming their bad behavior on us. They walk off the job, talk on the phones, slack off and dick around but it's us the ones who are actually working being treated like shit. My boss was spreading lies about one worker and tried to manipulate my opinion by giving me half truths about the person and I went against my boss and told the person what the boss told me. He quit and I'm not too far behind. Worked so hard to make this company work just to watch it get taken over by sycophants who kiss ass and don't really care about the company's future. It's so fucked up.

Not always I was an HR Director and I was a victim of this at many employers. Maybe some HR people like this, but please don’t judge every HR person for being like this. Not only was I mistreated by the CEO of the company, but many of the Union stewards and other employees and no one would do anything about it. I was a person who is able to support management and employees with empathy. One of the problems is if HR wants to do the right thing if they’re boss, doesn’t they could just fire the HR person for not following with the boss wants. The key crux of the issue is to keep narcissist out of the workplace. That’s what this is all stemming from…

Most leaders put in a leadership position are not leaders. They are given a responsibility that they don't deserve. And they take that position by the reigns and run a bulldog fight with it. A leader motivates it's team. And pushes integrity in the business. The quality of the business thrives as well as the crew. It makes the employees want to come and do the job and the money becomes secondary.

Giant red flag: nepotism arrangements. When the boss' wife/husband works in the office. Especially if they're not qualified for the role. Run far, far away and don't ever accept the job. Nothing good ever comes out of that. Or any form of nepotism really (friends, family members, etc). You, as the employee, will always be "wrong". Not to mention, if you have a legitimate complaint about a spouse, you can't exactly bring that up to the boss. Nepotism harms morale in the office.

Bullies are lazy bums and stupid managers are scared of the bullies. They say about me I'm crazy, I drink, I'm a stalker all bs defamation of character. The biggest mistake since they removed disciplinary measures. They should arrest the bullies and fire the manager. Action speaks louder than nasty words. It destroyed my reputation. I will never quit to make these lazy bums ever win. If I decide to transfer to another hospital and may start gaslighting, smearing and bullying me once again, I don't know all the new managers etc. like in every department like now. So best to not change hospitals. I will never let bullies try to control me from quitting. In my experience, it's the entire modern culture that's toxic, not one specific workplace -- and by logical necessity, most workplaces will have at least a bit of toxicity in them, because this toxicity is so pervasive. The only way around that is to have a CEO who is not toxic, and who specifically screens employees in a way that keeps the workplace healthy (which is a nearly impossible task, and the difficulty grows exponentially as the number of employees increases). In other words, the best a person can hope for is a boss that is trying their best... you should be able to get a feel for the team they've put together, within a few weeks of working there.

True. 😢 Time is our most precious resource, and 40 hrs per week in a toxic work environment is a third of one's time awake being around toxic people (So not worth it!!!), not to mention time lost preparing for, and unwinding from, a toxic environment. One thing about a toxic environment is that it will make you ruminate so much, thus causing the toxic work situation to take up far more than 35% of your hours awake. The shock of it all caused several to walk out and are still dealing with PTSD almost five years later. There are no employee protections regarding anything that was done in Indiana, like many other "right to work" states. After several tries, it is just impossible to have a career path and age has caught up. It's sad how horribly so many employees are suffering the consequences of those who retire with honors and huges bonuses for their time after destroying many lives of those under them. All of the "protected" statuses don't see to matter when they do things that aren't based on the protected statuses but on their wish to protect and promote some and not others regardless of status.

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition in which people have an unreasonably high sense of their own importance. They need and seek too much attention and want people to admire them. People with this disorder may lack the ability to understand or care about the feelings of others.

FYI-, absolutely, do NOT do an employee survey if it's called a 360 degreee review if anyone is a current target.
@laurawelliver402310 ай бұрын
can't do this anonymously
@NovaPrincess2 ай бұрын
Yup. My company implemented a survey where we have to rate our direct team members on a team of about 8 people total! When I heard about it the first time, I immediately knew it was absolutely not anonymous, even though the company lies and claims it was, and that it would be used for mobbing and bullying. The manager literally assigns people to review each other . So if manager assigns person 1 to be reviewed by colleagues A, B, and C, just off diction alone (if one leaves comments, as it's both numeric ratings and 'additional comments') they can easily identify who wrote what. Also, what if someone wrote something blatantly abusive in their 'peer review', I bet management would miraculously find a way to exactly identify who wrote what and on what device, OS, and time of day they did it. 😒

@@NovaPrincess - I was a manager of a department who didn't have a manager previously. A new CEO (knowing there we're issues) did a 360. Everyone on my team did just about 100 percent negative review of me. It was obvious they used the system to destroy me and my reputation. At that company I wasn't just bullied - I was mobbed. It was so bad that I wrote an entire book about it. 360's are NOT good.

I'll be honest, life is very short and I'd frankly be beyond already dead tolerating much too many year depersonalized and traumatized at a toxic soul crushing workplace than engaged the real life work of finding the better fit with psychological flow and purpose and energy... and of course, undisrupted sleep.

Oh God, I recently started a job which came with quite a detailed formal offer... but the schedule has since changed twice and I'm only 4 days in. Changed without asking. If it was take it as it goes then fine but it was them who set the details. There are other red flags and I can't see it being long term but I feel like such a nitwit to quit so soon :(

I am currently working in a hospital, focusing on patient care. However, recent changes in leadership have resulted in a culture of reporting minor activities. This has devalued my contributions and led to unwarranted reports, jeopardizing my well-being and occupational continuity. The director's conduct, including psychological manipulation and gathering personal information, has been distressing. This has affected my well-being and productivity, prompting me to consider a considerable remuneration reduction in exchange for leaving the current professional environment.

You can not train leadership or character. You have to identify leadership and character and promote it. Additionally, employers are afraid to admit that they hired a poor leader or, worse, that poor leader is just like the person that hired them, so they prefer that.

Agreed, HR representatives are not vigilant about toxic work place bullies or the culture they create. In my experience they seemed to foster this behavior. Well until litigation proceedings occurred. Then the moved towards radical change! This seems costly and sad to be honest. I just left and organization with toxic leadership . One person in particular. But the rest are guilty by suffering and fostering this terrified tyrant antics! She has been known to run off new talent and give impossible inequitable assignments! Most folks there hate interacting with her. She creates an environment where folks have quietly quit!

Then the whistle blower or person that stands up becomes the difficult employee. Or singled out! That is not a great place to be. The isolation is real!
