I feel like trips is very often one of those hands where people think it's stronger than it is. Usually when your hand goes from top pair to trips, the number of hands your opponent could have that you're beating doesn't really increase at all. Their straights still beat you, flushes still beat you, top pairs -> trips still have you outkicked, 2 pair makes a boat, sets make a boat. The only thing you're beating now that you weren't before is overpairs. I think the instinct is to think "wow I have trips, that's really strong I gotta bet" but the opponent doesn't have more hands you can take to value town. Though they might be more likely to bluff catch since you have fewer queens.

well said. i think this is why i check turn 100% here in games not full of droolers.
@fluffysheap

Two pair only has a full house infrequently since the paired card on the board only has one card left. If the trips wasn't the top card you're also beating top pair. The bigger problem for two pair is that they often get counterfeited by the paired board, leaving them with garbage, and they will have to fold.

as i said in another comment, in tough games vs tough opponents im probably checking back turn with 100% of my range here. perhaps a small bet the small percentage of the time ive boated up. this card will hit your opponents range more than yours and a vast majority of the time youre going to want to realize your equity and not get check-jammed on.

I agree with the river tiny induce bet here and just be prepared to call it off. Might be too thin sometimes as V will have some better Qx hands. I’d bet $300 on the river in hopes of a call from AJ or to induce a bluff.

Paused at the turn with a question. If you’re checking back turn with hands strong as kings then doesn’t any bet automatically make you polarized? Since you’ll be betting basically a queen or better or a bluff? So a large bet would make sense since your range is already polarized? Or am I totally off base. I know there’s live exploits at play but I’m just wondering from a theoretical standpoint.

curious why people think villain is calling a bet (or shoving to reverse block sizing) on the river? I villain gave Michael G a hard time because villain is salty his tricky play with AA didn't work out? And why villain didn't take the line of check-raising the flop with AA is beyond me considering how many cards could kill action on the turn (and did kill action on the river.)

Flop should rarely be a check back. First there’s definitely bluffs we’ll have that we want to balance. Second this flop strongly favors our range so a check back is almost an alarm bell. Third we usually have the best hand on a board where the villain will have a lot of second best hands and draws. Id say this is almost a mandatory flop bet.

The small games are hard to win at consistently compared to the rake unless the stacks deepen. The main ideas and math still apply though. I think 2-5 is much better game if you want to be serious, otherwise just have "fun" at 1-3 and get comfy in the casino setting. Read the 2+2 books, super/system, Bart's videos, some of Doug's old analysis ones too

The guy plays AA like that and then berates you? LOL. Shouldn't he 4-bet pre or check raise flop. I guess if you have a super tight image he might correctly fear QQ and JJ, but otherwise it seems silly to slow play the flop.

I don't like the idea of checking the turn. I think that villain bet correctly. If you give a free card and flush or straight completes, you aren't likely getting value on the river. With the river completing T9, I check river.
@chrisko6439
@chrisko6439 Жыл бұрын
There should only be one T9 calling close to pot on turn: T9 of diamonds and even that should probably be folding, because hero already can have boat or KQ or AK of diamonds.

It's somewhat of a new wave. I went to play a tournament the other day. I swear, over 3-4 hours I saw more called 3 bets and limps with AA and KK then I did in the last year. From different people, on different tables. Like, what is going on, is it a new thing or just people wanting to be tricky? btw nobody got punished for that, all of those trappers won chips.

I think the caller sort of screwed himself here by betting big on both the flop and turn. It would've been much better to just check back on the flop, raise on the turn, and jam all-in on the river.

YES! I need to know the definitions of all the terms you've founded. 😂 I do like the check on the river. Villain does have a lot of boat combinations he could be slow-playing. He could also have a better queen or a straight. The way I see it, hero got a ton of value from v playing AA terribly.
@pugsnhogz

Check river I just think is missing too much value. Villain has overpairs, Jx, even TT or something might just decide we're bluffing on the river. Idk, I bet 700 or 1200 maybe 50/50 each here. If they shove I'm looking for tells lol.
