Yes, Kansas is tough. Steve Walsh was incredible. He has the best "oo" vowel I've ever heard in a song. When he sings "surely heaven waits for you" that "you" is supreme.

Right now I'm working on building up my strength and stamina plus working through my break. So my practice time is about 35 minutes including warm up and down. After I get better 20 minutes might be alright. But for now that's not quite enough for me.

What do you think of the habit of clearing throat ? Some say its bad for your vocal cord .

it's not great. But the general rule of thumb is it's not damaging if there's gunk in the way and there's no pain. Doing it excessively can be a bad habit and lead to vocal issues no different than yelling too much. if it hurts to clear your throat, it's recommend to not sing for a bit and heal.
