Nice video to get people ready for a power outage. Thanks for sharing

You know Scotty that is a thought that is a constant in my mind with the type of fish i keep and over stocked. I feel lucky in the NYC area the power outages are not frequent or long. I clearly remember the big one a while back. We are not used to that. If and when i get back into a house , a generator would be the first thing in line. Thank you Scotty

Great video. I live in Lynchburg, Virginia, and we have just gone through a snow and ice storm. I personally did not lose my power, but I am prepared. Thank you for sharing this

Thank you for the prep reminder. I need something to backup my airpumps. Be careful on heavy indoor kerosene heater use. The fumes are not good in an enclosed area. I worked with a guy who ran a couple of them heavily through a couple very cold Buffalo NY winters. (His natural gas was cut off for non-payment.) Both he and his wife died from cancer very close together. Natural gas is in my opinion the most efficient and clean heat source. It's mad that the PTB are forcing a move to all electric heating.

@@saabtech3510 actually kerosene is clean burning the only smell you get is startup and shut down other than that it's no fumes.

HI Scotty great video. That was always one of my fears when I got started with my aquariums. We have a large portable generator that runs on propane or gas. We usually just use propane enough to run 5 days without stopping. It's only a 13kw. But It keeps just about everything running it's tied into the breaker box. Our home is also 2400 sf. All the larger aquariums have backup diy UPS that will keep all the sumps and wave makers running for about 3 to 4 days. By then I pray the power is back on. Lol

Always a 👍 Trade ya cold snaps... But I couldn't do your heat waves I have several rechargeable air pumps. I keep mine running 12 hrs a day. It stays charged and still keeps air/ bubbles going We used to heat a kerosene heater but found the kerosine too expensive... It's -30 here with the windchill

Agreed! Once O'Biden is history maybe things will get better. Is burning kerosene indoors safe? I'm thinking carbon monoxide. Anyway, the power outages and air pumps going down brings up check-valves on any pumps below tank-level. Just a thought. Great content, Scott. Thanks! ~Ron

@@garageaquatics2023 yep check valves on all pumps. And yes kerosene is safe I never had any issues using it from a little kid till still using it currently
