Better off never stopping at all. Been on a bike since 1971 and never stopped. I ride my SE 29er every day the weather is decent. Even built one for my wife and she loves it❤

Totally agree! I wish I had ridden more when I was younger but I had to raise three kids along the way and sadly the bike took a backseat at times to being a dad and working full time. But heck yeah, if you can keep riding, the more power to you! I wish my wife would go on rides with me! Haven't been able to convince her. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻

Aloha Kevin! We are about the same age. I'll be 56 in a few weeks. I'm a big bmx collector and rider. Bmx roots started way back in Hawaii in the 80's. I got back into riding bmx back in 2001 and never stopped since then. I live just 5 minutes away from a great bmx park called Lake Cunningham Action Sports Park. Biggest skatepark here in Northern California. I ride there 3 to 4 times a week with about 2 hour sessions. I'm still riding a 20 inch freestyle bike and ride skateparks, dirt jumps, pump tracks and some old school flatland. My collection is pretty big with mostly 70's to modern retro all 20 inch with a few 24 inch and a 26 Kos Kruiser, all around 90 completed bikes. In my collection I did keep some stuff when I lived in Hawaii and also brought back a new Hutch TrickStar I bought at Waipahu Bike Shop in 1991. If you are ever in the Bay Area look me up. Enjoyed this video and all the other ones in the past. Mahalos! 🤙🏽
@cruisinginthe808Ай бұрын
Sounds like we need to plan a trip up to the Bay Area to check out this rad BMX collection! If we ever get out that way, we will definitely look you up. Would love to maybe even do a video with you if you're willing to share that collection with the world! Man, I just love hearing stories like this. And you spent time in Hawaii too! Did you ever race in Hawaii? What a small world huh? Hope to meet you someday my friend! Thanks for sharing this with us and for watching our vids! 🤙🏻

@cruisinginthe808 I grew up in Waipahu and moved to California in 1984. I did not race officially but I used to mess around the PAL track in Waipahu that was short-lived. When Freestyle bmx hit the scene, I was into it. I did know racers from back in the day and did ride with them now and then. Especially the guys at The Great Outdoors/The Bike Shop in Pearl City. Moki and Miki Fernandez, John Llacuna, Roy Ingano, Walter Watanabe to name a few I remember from back then. I did enter in the 2 freestyle shows they had at the Great Outdoors. Won for highest bunny hop the first time and almost beat Moki in the long distance jump. Moki was a great and smooth rider. I still have that 1981 Mongoose I rode back then restored with some of its original parts the way I had it back then. I even brought my bmx bike to our 20th class reunion. Everyone back then remembered me for riding a bmx bike. They were surprised I brought that bike and did some freestyle tricks on it.
@josephdelasierra4890Ай бұрын
@cruisinginthe808 Whenever you come to California, it sounds like a plan! I ride with some of the bmx legends from the Bay Area and they still ride. This 2024 year 2 of my bikes were out and about. 1 went to The Bmx Hall of Fame. My Skyway TA Hugo Gonzalez tribute bike and Haro visor went Hugo and Oscar Gonzalez for them to donate memorabilia when Hugo got inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Another bike was loaned for The Back for More in 2024. Ron,Dave and Brian Freestyle Tour. Ron Wilkerson rode my 2Hip Pork on that tour. Pretty cool set up I did for him to help him out since he didn't have an all around freestyle bike set up. I know Ron personally and ride with him here at Cunningham Action Sports Park just about every week 1 to 2 times weekly.

That neck mounted camera really holds a smooth video, no bouncing around. Have you ever used one of those chest mounted GoPro's or the ones that mount on top of your helmet? If so, what do you think of the other ones in comparison? I feel for you when it comes to the uninvited insects entering your body at will. Are they aiming for those holes?🦟🦠🪲👃🤧😷 That was a fun hill.
@cruisinginthe808Ай бұрын
Yeah, it's surprisingly stable and didn't bounce around much at all. The camera itself is a decent weight so maybe that has something to do with it. I tried using the GoPro chest mount but found it way too cumbersome to wear with all of those straps. I have used a helmet mount but the only issue with that is that anytime you turn your head, the camera whips around whereas the neck mount won't move quite as much with the same motion. I'm really liking the neck mount and will be using it tonight when I ride on Oahu! Stay tuned! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻

Hello from Sunny Florida. I am ready to transition to a Big BMX bike from my lil 20” Citizen folding bike. I luv bike riding but my folding bike is very sluggish and now that I see the adult bmx bikes are hitting the scene I definitely want to jump in to this cool trend. I grew up in the 80’s (now 52) alongside my GT performer and I miss it so much. My question is, for my height of 5’11, 175lbs, what size bike would you recommend? Thanks in advance and I’m so glad I found your channel. Keep up the vids I will be following.
@cruisinginthe80821 күн бұрын
Aloha! Thanks for the comment and following along! We get this question a lot and there is no easy answer to it. Some people swear by their 20” and won’t ride anything else, no matter their height. For me personally, I prefer a 26”. I like the added size the bigger rims and frame bring. Bernie and I like to just cruise and so we want to feel comfortable. I will add tall bars to my bikes so I can sit more upright and not hunched over. But this is totally our preference. That’s why it’s hard for me to tell you what to do. My best advice is to see if you can get yourself on a 24, 26, 27.5, and 29 and see how they all ride and then make that decision. We also have a few videos where we compare the 24 vs the 26 or the 26 vs the 27.5 that might help. Sorry that I can’t tell you exactly which size to get but I hope you can see why. Thanks for watching and welcome back to BMX!! 🤙🏼

What’s the difference between riding a 26 inch and 29 inch? I’ve always ridden 26 inch wheel bikes. I’m 5’7, not sure if 29 would work for me? Thanks.
@cruisinginthe80826 күн бұрын
I'm 5'9" and the 29 is fine for me but I do enjoy riding the 26 more. The smaller the bike, the more responsive it is when steering. The 29's wheels are big so they help with rolling over stuff easily but may be a tad harder to maneuver. I do like my 29" Big Ripper and Monster Quad though. Best advice I can give you is to try and ride a 29 first before you buy one, just in case, if you have a bike shop nearby. Main thing is you're out on your bike! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻

Would love to here from you!! Thank you in advance!
@cruisinginthe808Ай бұрын
I've used the Insta 360 motorcycle mount which is pretty good but the one I'm liking the best is from PGYTECH. Here is the link to it. amzn.to/3ZTjsUr . I like this one because it comes with a small plastic sort of "wrench" that helps you tighten the screws down. These type of mounts are notoriously hard to keep tight and this little wrench fits over the screw and gives you more leverage to clamp it down on your bars. The head also tilts as well. Pretty good for $40! It does have some cushion on the inside of the clamp that protects your bars, but I did notice that if you have the clamp next to a bend in your bars hear the stem, if the edge of the clamp touches your bars, they will scrape it. The cushion doesn't go past the clamp and falls just a bit short so that's why the edge can touch if it's close to the bend. Hope this helps! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
