My advice after too many years using petrol hedge trimmers etc.
Are the machines you're using day to day going to give you health issues in a few years time, try to choose health over wealth when possible.
After 3 years of using a battery hedge trimmer to trim hedges I do this job with just a petrol one to remind myself why I really do hate using them. Not everyone likes the battery gear but I definitely wouldn't go back to the petrol gear full time.
Thanks for watching and please give the video a like if you enjoyed it.
Check out some of our previous videos.
Cheers.

Yep, 100% Nathan. I sold our remaining 2-stroke gear earlier this year, glad to see it go. 63 now and there's no way I could carry on using it. The other thing about battery stuff is that when you take your finger off the trigger, it's making no noise at all. Makes for a much calmer experience for us and the customers.

Kept my old petrol Kombi engine, you know just in case I have heavy work or something. I have never once thought I needed or wanted to take it out in the 3 or 4 years since I got battery. Like you I hate the noise, I hate the fumes, I hate the weight, I hate mixing 2T, I hate getting to the top of the ladder and the machine cuts out, and I don't miss the tingle and cold of white finger in the winter. Battery for me all day long. The number of customers who now commented on how noisy the guy up the road was earlier in the week is amazing.

Well said Nathan. I would not buy another petrol hedge trimmer i use a Mitox at the moment and its like swinging a ford fiesta around the weight of it, but it was £200 so serves me right for being tight but i don't do many big hedges now. I still think blowers are the one machine that they fall short on with battery but i'm sure it won't be long until they can match 2 stroke.👍

I have the long term plan to eventually get a stihl electric kombi motor and battery's for my equipment for topiary and maintaining hedges and only use the petrol where necessary and for less time than now. Battery trimmers Great. However, as ergonomic and quiet and less vobration as elec strimmers are, they are hopeless for the scale of work we do on council, just no way near enough power or life in batteries, especially cemetary cutting, impossible without petrol ATM. Electric blowers are a brilliant thing indeed, not backpack, side battery combos. Just a great advancement for most the year, BUT totally USELESS for autumn when tou have 3 ton of leaves a day to be blown for transit and tipping. Just not quite enough grunt, and again no longevity. I think we're not quite there yet with the battery technology. I've been using petrol for the last 25ish years now and it most DEFINITELY done my body in somewhat. I remember the old lads telling me as an 18 year old new starter to go easy, but I never cared and no one really would though at that age 😂 Love these videos. So much truth and relevance. Nice video Nathan. Been in the garden maintenance business 6 years and so far I’m quite happy using the petrol Stihl/echo long reach cutters. I use the stihl hl94 rather than the heavier 4 mix engines. Hl94 is noticeably lighter compared to 4 mix. This year tho I’ve bought the Stihl HLA 86 telescopic cutter. Great bit of kit especially for the extra wide hedges. Batteries ain’t cheap tho!! I usually start the week using the petrol and finish with the battery equipment when I’m tired. Like yourself, think it’s smart to have both petrol/battery available to you when tackling different tasks.
@LewisgardenservicesLtd

I've heard the 135 is heavy, guessing it's just the greener version of petrol and not the lighter which is what I'm after. You're right tho, can't have it all🤔 cheers for watching 👍

Hi Nathan I’m starting to prefer the battery stuff it is slower but lighter the HLA66 is fantastic after using my clients battery gear last week it changed my mind I just now need to start buying abit more battery gear the little BGA86 blower is decent for small gardens and flower beds (not sure why I’m telling you that as you’ve probably got one lol😂) but yeah I’m loving the battery stuff and would rather switch completely it’s just cost at this stage but I’ll get there Have a great week

Have a good week yourself 👍 don't completely switch just add when you can afford it. You'll still need some petrol kit if you get stuck into really heavy work. Cheers mate

Petrol gear all the time, sounds powerfull ,is powerfull ,looks professional, whereas battery sounds weak looks amateurish, just like a vehicle the way to power tools is with a engine,o and im now 60 years old and been using petrol tools all my life and you cant beat the smell of a engine

Good on you getting to 60 swinging the petrol gear about 💪 full time by 40 my body was falling apart and battery kept me in the game. Totally agree tho for the big heavy work petrol still comes out and earns it keep. Thanks for watching 👍

the only reason battery hedge cutters are slower the stihl you have is 3000 cuts per min petrol is 4000 cuts per min echo and makita have battery with 4000 cuts per min dont know about ego

Ego is 3,200 I believe... Depending on the model. If you want speed check out Makita XGT range... Their hedge trimmer is 6000 strokes per minute... It's what I personally use and I love it. Great finish on the finer hedges. The do a rough cut version aswell which is slower but goes through some surprising thick stuff.

@@TomMac1 Makita UH004GZ is one of them, I do find their model numbers confusing... There's variations in blade length. I've just double checked and it's 5,000 strokes per minute.. my bad! Awesome trimmer though.

No wonder you find it heavy being the 4mix and the vibrations are ridiculous! I do keep a KM100 on the van for strimming longer stuff as I love the torque. I've tried some battery stuff and totally hated it to be honest. It's just so slow and gutless especially for hedge trimming and the blowers eat batteries in a few minutes. I've been gardening now for 32yrs now and NEVER plan on going to the battery, just hobby stuff in my opinion 😂👍

The 4mix long reach I've hated since the day they came out, the old 75 was lighter and lasted for ever. The echo is lighter and straight 2 stroke but still taxing after a while. The battery isn't perfect but I'd look to pick one up every time over petrol for the right job. Each to their own tho, you must be made of stronger stuff than me💪😅 cheers for watching 👍

@@LewisgardenservicesLtd I've got probably 12+ HL75 type engines rebuilt and 12+ hl135 gearboxes either new or completely rebuild. Mostly with brand new internals and blades. I've got a vested interest in petrol machines, the trouble is they never die on me to need their replacement that's waiting inline 🤣🤣
