@guidetoanything2 жыл бұрын
I don't think he turns off his fear, every human has fears, but I understand where his humor comes from, most of these stories are humorous because they are trying to convey a real feeling by using unrealistic events. That said, they are still fantastic stories, and I hope the author feels happy whether his stories inspire fear or laughter, both are good outcomes in the horror genre, and Bikram is a great writer.
@sethescope2 жыл бұрын
@@bowieworld I don't think you can actually turn off your fear response. even if you've had a massively traumatic brain injury (for instance, getting a pole shoved through most of your brain, as in a famous case), it wouldn't be like a toggle switch. with that kind of TBI, you just wouldn't feel fear anymore because that part of your brain had been injured. fear is a fundamental process in your brain, it's a survival mechanism. you can't turn it off, even in situations where you have to cope with chronic traumatic stress where your brain will believe whatever it needs to in order for the chronic trauma to stop being terrifying. even then, you're not toggling it and it's not an active conscious choice, it's another survival mechanism. in chronic trauma situations, all you can do is compartmentalize, but again, it's not an active, fully conscious and aware and calm "I am not going to be scared now" there's also a difference between being able to self soothe and come down from being scared vs "I've decided I am no longer going to be scared"

The rest of the season's stories have been incredibly lackluster and never had good endings (most didn't have endings). But this one is without a doubt the best story of the season. It being a little more grounded in reality and the narrator being just some guy helped it a lot. And of course that they played on a lot of people's fears of a silent stalker, especially a clown/mime figure. Not the scariest story, and honestly it didn't get anything but a laugh from me, but it was genuinely fun to hear whatever the mime was about to do next. Great job to the writer for creating a fun little story that you could tell at a campfire to kids and unintentionally give them a fear of mimes or to scare a couple of drunk/high friends on the weekends.

I collected clowns as a little girl (dolls not humans) until I grew up and realized how really friggin’ creepy they were. So, naturally, my parents took every opportunity to scare the crap out of me with all these clown dolls. I pulled the blanket down on my bed one night and they had put one there and waited all day for me to go to bed and find it 🤣

My brother-in-law is afraid of clowns. I stumbled upon a greeting card with a clown eating a foot-long hot dog (like had way too much of it into his wide open mouth)... I bought the card and would hide it in different areas of his house when we would visit. In the kitchen cabinet, medicine cabinet, refrigerator, etc. Scared the shit out of him every time. I'd always manage to retrieve it. The final straw was when I hid it in the sunvisor of his car. He's driving home from work, flips the shade down, and there he is, face-to-face with this fucking clown!
