Such a good podcast. I know when I have to say goodbye to my 11 year old Standard Poodle, it’s going to hit so hard 💔

Great podcast, guys. Danny’s point about his grief over Brodie … I think in our lifetimes of dog ownership we all have that one dog who breaks our heart. Maybe this is due to our emotional investment in that animal. I had the same with one rescue dog I took on - seeing him transform into a wonderful healthy dog was my investment. Now I do as Jamie and Danny do and have a bit more self-preservation. Some really good points too about creating that bond and being in the moment with our dogs … we have many forms of entertainment and enrichment, whereas our dogs only have us.

Like you Jamie we had all sorts of animals for the kids. It's definitely to do with making them responsible pet owners - interesting idea that it's an early base for parenthood! I have been broken over every dog (and cat) I have owned and lost. Each time I tell myself not to get in so deeply but it won't happen. I'm sure when the time comes for my current dog to leave I will be broken again. Do I love my dog like a child.. Yes but from point of view that she depends on me for her health and well being. After all she can't buy her own food or fill up the water from a tap!

I am so excited to find you guys! I didnt even know I knew I needed you!! I have 2- 13 yr old elderly black lab brothers both have various illnesses due to thier age but I am having so much anxiety at the thought of them passing :( it is starting to interfere. One has a tumor on his side amd the other one has an abscess behind his eye. They are brothers from the same little and had a few issues as puppies that had to be coreccted very young. I dont think either one will make it without the other. They have never been apart. Even if I take them to the kennel I pay for 2 but prefer to keep them in . When the first one passes I dont think the other one will not last long :( I am going tk try my best to 'be in the moment' with them instead of worrying about it. I have a 13 year old cat who really thinks he is a dog amd LOVES his big puppies. The cat walks and goes to the dogpark and all over town and even for car rides with the dogs! ❤

I have a neighbour who has had 5 dogs in a space of 7 years (never lasted long with them) and has only now decided doesn't like dogs 🤯 can't understand that, the dogs were lovely as well!
