Hey guys! Brad Litton from SimpleGuitar.com here with a beginner guitar lesson on how to use your pickup selector to make sure you're getting the best possible sound. This is actually really simple and easy, but something that doesn't get a lot of attention for too many people.
A lot of people will just use one pickup on their guitar primarily, but you can get much better tones by trying to use your ears and trying out the different tones you can get by using different pickup options.
In general, a good rule of thumb to start with is to use your neck pickup for lead guitar (especially higher up on the neck) and to use your bridge pickup for rhythm guitar (especially for lower on the neck.

When is a good time to try the middle position? I never use it because the neck or bridge pickup would sound just a little better.... so what's the best use for middle position?

I have a squire stratocaster that have 3 pickups and a slider switch so what setting do i use it on if i play sweet home alabama and those types of songs thanks

I always wondered why the selector was labeled that way. Rock is one of my favorite genres, so I always thought it was completely backwards!
