Yeah, there's this strange correspondence between the (lack of) quality of movies and series and the rise of critics......... I can't really put my finger on it. LOL The really funny thing is that Hollywood is really fluffing critics who are nothing but positive about their output (the not at all suspicious amount of 10/10 comments that strangely all use the exact same wording), but is instantly butt-hurt when a critic points out problems with storylines, plot-holes, characters, etc, calling it all hate-comments......... riiiiight.

What pisses me off is now that we are told ( what we already knew but was called a conspiracy theory ) the overwhelming amount of censorship that occurred over the last few years to protect a certain political alignment is that now that the zeitgeist has shifted to the center that suddenly the censors are calling "free speech" dangerous and censorship at the same time. They thought "gamers", as in hardcore gamers, are a small segment of the customers and losing them is fine if they gain more customers elsewhere as a result. They overestimated how big the "modern audience" is. They thought the bulk of the sales are normies who dont consider themselves gamers, and they thought the people on "their side" who also hate gamers are far more numerous than they really are. Well, clearly that was not the case.

@@MrDezokokotar i think part of that mentality was due to twitter prior to Elon owning it, the site was rampant with bot accounts that would often give the perception that the majority of ppl were for all these stupid causes and because idiots thought ppl lived on twitter and some folks did, but when Elon purged out all those bot accounts and there were hundreds of thousands of these accounts all pushing a narrative. a lot of these bot accounts were found in other social media as well, and that could trick a lot of perception of any of these companies either in gaming and or movies and shows. but every time these moves or games came out the masses weren't purchasing them, that Modern Audience was one in the same as the Majority Audience, but they thought it was the same Audience on twitter before Elon owned the platform so that's why they kept attempting to push the message even when their movies or games were always being rejected. and personally i feel that was apart of the plan from the beginning in order to sway power into their direction politically in media as well in politics, which would explain why everyone went crazy so damn quickly.

@ Yeah well, it doesnt matter how old it is if people in it are being replaced by new blood and the old are strongarmed and gaslit into towing the line. Its a combination of an ideological bubble , gaslighting and laws. Studios are in big cities which are overwhelmingly more progressive, so theyre biased to think most people believe the same as them. Hheir HR, market research, and various other groups have incentive to lie to them and convince them that dei is great and will make them money. Part of it may be incompetence, part false assumptions, and part just deliberate lies. And then the laws make it very easy to sue for discrimination when public companies dont do dei, so they essentially must do it. Title VII of the Civil Right Act is one of the biggest enablers of dei in the US for example.

KZbin critics also get bashed for no reason way too often. AVGN was torn apart for saying he wasnt gonna see Ghostbusters 2016 or review it. NO. KZbin critics are good because anyone can have a voice and not be held to the standard of the "journalist" or the "oscar nominated" approved garbage. Rotten tomatoes shows a lot of how the audience and viewers disagree. That is not always a correct analysis but before RT and KZbin critics give better and more impartial personal reviews of movies about if they are good or if they are preachy garbage the paid for reviewers HAVE to love. Everyone knows what Oscar bait is and the reviewers always cream their pants over it and most of the time now it SUCKS. Women Talking could be used as a "humane" torture method in Guantanamo.

Not necessarily a 1 to 1. Those too still used old media, back when the journalistic establishment had more credibility than today. They earned it the old fashioned way so most of the industry and public respected them. That's not to say people in the industry didn't try to take them down. Roland Emerick ripped off Jurrasic Park and used Sisckel and Ebert charatures to make them look dumb, or M Night with his stupid Lady in the Water where the critic gets mauled by a beast for no narrative reason other than acting a little arrogant.

We are also the target audience for the products. So we can provide a more direct critique instead of those who are PAID and not only paid, but PAID TO LIE about movies in order to keep their perk of Early Access. For those who don't know, Rotten Tomatoes was outed by one of the critics back in 2019. Telling people how they are paid to give positive reviews even if the movie was not good. Conformity and stifling creativity are literally baked into Japanese culture, and the Chinese government is infamous for how much they censor their citizens and companies. For example, if u take Marvel Rivals (the Chinese developed game you're showing on screen) and try to type any political message about China into the chat, it will be censored. Do u think that's by mistake? You are of course entitled to your opinion, but when that opinion isn't based in reality, it won't be taken seriously.

I watch a few variations videos about the entertainment industry, mostly from ClownfishTV, and one saying I hear a lot is “the pendulum is moving back”. A major factor is the ongoing problem with censorship, localization of foreign content, entitled elitism within the industry, and hearing the same buzzwords about whatever is causing noise. Seriously, how else can you explain why Mufasa was nominated for best animated film when Sonic 3 outclassed it by a large margin?

Naw youtube critics just usually tell it how it is, its social media that is truly toxic on the internet.

Critics aren't toxic. But CD and his ilk are just the equal and opposite version of people like Anita Sarkeesian from 10 years ago. To them, paraphrasing an infamous Anita quote, everything is woke, everything is DEI, and they need to point it all out.

I'd argue that they are even worse, since I feel like Anita's criticisms came from a good place, even if they were somewhat misguided. At the very least, she was saying that we shouldn't use the same stereotypical plots and characters again and again. Meanwhile, CD and those in his sphere are about limiting creativity to fit within a certain box all of the time.

Before I listen to a critic's opinion on something new. I listen to their opinion on something I already have an opinion on. If their opinion meshes with mine on a previous piece of entertainment, I have no reason to think their opinion would shift so drastically that it shouldn't be trusted currently. Time is too limited to waste.

Critical Drinker led me to Ken Cole, Disparu, George The Giant Slayer, and Alteori, so he isn't all bad.

I like The Drinker, mostly because he does seem to try to be unbiased in his reviews. I was surprised when he says he liked a movie or leaves a positive review on something that you'd expect a guy that talks like he does to dislike. Now, I do not take every review as Gospel. I can like something even if millions hate it and vice versa, but I think the Drinker does try to stay pretty unbiased. It's kinda sad that we got so used to avoiding criticism and just embraced the "consume slop, peasant" mentality.

I stopped going to movies or watching TV because it was garbage to me. The KZbin critics are entertaining because they mock the garbage that studios churn out. If the studios don't like being mocked, stop producing trash and declaring it to be gold.

I just like those KZbin critics that don't bullshit me. And if they do, I leave and stop watching, just as most people that also feel they are being BSed to.

None of it is toxic if it’s valid constructive criticism.

I will always go back to what happened with Disney and Don Bluth. If Disney hadn't pissed off Don and his friends and driven them away, Don would never have created his own studio and made his own films separate from Disney. He would never have handed Disney their entire ass at the box office. And that failure never would have driven Disney to the Disney Renaissance. Bluth criticized them first. They didn't listen. So he made his own movies and SHOWED them he was right. KZbin critics largely don't have the resources to do that second part, but they **are** doing the first part. And that criticism is what these big corporations need. They've all gotten too big for their britches and believe they're too big to fail. But now the critics are showing them otherwise by pulling in more views than their big budget blockbuster films and drawing bigger crowds than most AAA games. So no. The critics aren't toxic. The out-of-touch entitlement and sheer hubris of our entertainment elites is what is toxic. You don't get to be an asshole and then say someone ELSE is the asshole for pointing out that you're being an asshole.

Never ask car dealerships what cars a garbage. Ask a private mechanic. Same with movies games.

There are some critics who don't seem to like ANYTHING but the juxtaposition is... There isn't much to like. Add alongside that some people's inability to agree to disagree and it just compounds the toxicity. We all are going to align with those we agree with more than those we don't but the key is being able to listen to people we don't agree with to try and at least see what they're saying and where they're coming from. Some people's off switch gets automatically flipped and they tune out. For example, Mauler despised Deadpool and Wolverine while I absolutely loved it. I listened to his criticism and while I think he expected WAY too much from the film, at the end of the day he's entitled to his opinion and his didn't change mine. I think if more people were capable of doing that, this conversation of if critics are toxic wouldn't be a thing. Siskel & Ebert had been doing it for years. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The narrative of “if you don’t like what we make you’re toxic.” Needs to stop. Drinker is opinionated, and can be divisive. Whenever I disagree with Drinker I just ignore it. It’s really that simple

I can't stand this lazy argument that all critical Drinker takes are just "his opinions". Critical Drinker has been shown countless times to have been dishonest in his reviews to drive home a political talking point when the films he reviewed didn't even have any. That is not just giving your opinion
