I live about 20 minutes away from Ares. I got their nickle bolt carrier group about 6 months ago and it has been running great with no lube and very easy to clean with a rag. highonimmi, While I agree with this want, I almost wonder if that would be rather above the ability of humans to accomplish. Why? In that proof of concept and test of theory, little room would be left for necessities with those battle rifles and ammunition loadouts. I should like to take part and rise to that challenge, but I am not sure if it should be very feasible. I think a base camp would have to be established with shorter hike distances, and all members of the party would have to have a great reliance on that camp, which rather defeats the purpose as it was strictly outlined in Red Skies as far as I know, but it would still be "fun" if you know what I mean. It is an intriguing idea, of course.

If you don't like how difficult it is to clean camel backs check out the Geiger rig. The whole top opens and you can flip it inside out. Super ez to add ice/clean. Also has a pump so u can shoot water out.

Combat XII pack is so nice, its a 24hr pack for sure, so long term bug out is a no unless you live in a temperate zone that doesn't change much. For me in PA I have other plans in place and this pack will get me from a to b no problems.

Looks like a nice vest except for the cobra buckles. I have used these type buckles in the past and when sweat gets in them they corrode and lock up.

Dimitri is one of the reasons we are in the bad position. Ares has a long history of screwing their customers. Do a google search on their "rudius" 80% 1911 project, and how badly that turned out for all of their customers. Or google their 80% lower scheme where they took thousands of customer's credit cards and charged them for 80% lowers that Ares didn't have in stock, then refused to refund for the better part of a year. These are not good people.

Company politics and scandals aside, in my opinion this carrier would be ~$100 cheaper without the cobra clips. Also in my opinion $300 may be too rich for not having a sturdy drag handle. In my opinion I still think the Crye JPC is the best carrier for me and at around the same price isn't trading any necessary features for a few tacticool ingredients. Also for me, personally the JPC appears to have deeper swim cut than this carrier which for me is more confortable on shouldering a rifle. All that said those cobra clips would make this a good home defense carrier because there's no loud double velcro cumberbund to mess with in the dark followed by another velcro flap. It's just slide on and clip it and your element of surprise and advantage is still intact.

You should do a reveiw on the Condor lightweight plate carrier! I personally own the rig and I wanted your opinion on it. As far as I can see, almost a step up from a chest rig, but an excellent lightweight "throw on" carrier for a "bump in the night". Plus, it is ultra affordable at about $40.

Doesn't look as good as BlackHawk Cutaway STRIKE 3D . You can add BALCS and have Side Armor capabilities with no additional attachments. The Cutaway ripcord on the carrier allows it to fall away from the body out of the box for $250 and made in the USA.

How do you guys feel about HSGI? I recently bought a plate carrier from them, 100% made in the USA and comes with a lifetime warranty. It is sewn in house and it seems to be made very very well. Stitching is on point. I haven't ran it with plates yet I have an order coming from AR500 sometime soon hopefully. It goes a little passed they're lead time so I'm still waiting..

I've read they are heavy , yes but if it can save my life in an already bad situation then I'm willing to have that weight .. besides I do plan on training and taking classes with it on to get somewhat used to the weight. And I did pay that extra $$ for the anti spalling coating. I believe it's a 2nd or 3rd layer added on to the plates. Spalling would definitely suck n could definitely kill you as well. Thanks man

You can still buy them. You can't go rent a CNC machine and do the push-button thing anymore. You have to mill it out yourself. But it is still legal. For now. Until Ares manages to get it outlawed here in California with their constant radio ads telling people come in and make unregistered and untraceable guns.

How exactly can the ATF declare a 80% lower a 100% firearm? If it hasn't meet milled out for a trigger group it is just a $80 paper weight... By these comments, does Ares have a drill press in the back and "letting customers come in and build their own lower" mean they're finishing the lowers in house? If that's the case then ya the ATF is right the lower is leaving the business as a unregistered 100% lower. However if it's leaving the store as a 80% paper weight and being completed at the customers house then the ATF can piss off. And imo all 2A legislature and regulation is a violation to the entire constitution.
