But...when this song was released, she was signed to UMG, the biggest record label in the music industry. She got so much support that she started her own label, Songbird, in partnership with Universal Republic Record, a division under UMG. UMG is a business that operates on supply/demand principles. The real question is: why aren't more people supporting her? THAT has nothing to do with the industry and everything to do with the general public/audience.
@davidb52058 жыл бұрын
***** Brainwashed? In what way? Nobody is holding a gun to my head and forcing me to listen to anything. As a consumer with internet access, I have more choices than ever. I can choose which artist to discover on Soundcloud, which artist to stream on Spotify, which artist's album/merch/tour tickets to buy online. The supply is definitely there. And like I said, even India Arie continues to make music with the support of the largest record label in the world. So, it has nothing to do with the industry desires and everything to do with the complacency of an audience that doesn't think for itself or actively support great artists.
@davidb52058 жыл бұрын
***** There is a lot of trash on TV and on the internet. However, no one is going to bubble wrap and child-proof the world for little kids. It is solely the responsibility of the parents to be vigilant and to pay attention to what their kids are consuming. It's certainly not easy in 2016 with so much out there, but it is still a parent's responsibility and no one else's. Again, I have to ask: why aren't these parents taking responsibility for their children? Everyone has a choice. Nobody is forced to consume anything they don't want to.

I have to beautiful daughters ages 10 and 12. My eldest daughter is now goin through a faze where she's starting not to like the way she look and children in school tell her she's ugly. But as an adult ik that children often say things with no regards as to how it may make the other person feel. So I sent her this song and told her to listen to it, She did and she called me crying, just to say thank you and she loves me so much for being the best dad in the world. Now she's gained her confidence and she's not effected by the way others view her through their lens. So I thank you dearly for taking the time to give us this song. It's really a amazing song .

I wish we had more women in general doing songs like this and looking and dressing natural rather than all this hypersexual, drop it while it's hot dancing and wearing lingerie and heels and tons of makeup- you get what I mean. I still love singers like Beyonce and yes, even Madonna but some women out there just don't seem to really know how to have any class. I really like the message in this song!!!!

"Don't need your silicone, I prefer my own, what God gave me is just fine" I really respect that she created an uplifting tune without putting anybody down. Even in the video, India.Arie isn't looking down on the other women who conform to those superficial beauty norms. You can see how comfortable she is in her own skin as she's grooving with them around the 1:50 mark. Like Judge Judy said, beauty fades, dumb is forever.

What are you even saying? Do we live in a world where I can't say how beautiful her skin is in this video? You don't know anything about me or where I live, I could live in Africa for all you know and be making this comment. For your information not everyone that is on KZbin lives in America and is apart of your messed up society. Outside of America we have the wonderful invention of the internet as well and we are able to view videos and say whatever the hell we want to say . I live in a predominantly black country where it is perfectly acceptable to tell a woman just how BEAUTIFUL her black skin is. India is a beautiful black queen that helps other girls know how to appreciate our MELANIN and that it makes us beautiful. If you see anything else, maybe you need to re-evaluate your life and your opinions. Also, wth does living among white people have to do with enjoying being black? I do not live around white people and I accept myself for who I am, I do no need white people to enjoy being black. If I was to continue I would end up writing a damn book. I'll just wish you well in life and hope you become conscious that we do not need anyone's validation to enjoy being who we are and we certainly do not need validation to tell a beautiful woman that she is beautiful.

It's like going through life, feeling bored, a little lost, or not having a point, then suddenly, you hear this song and just feel. You feel that sun in the video and have memories of happy moments, family trips, experiences. You feel like a happy you. Kind of like nothing matters except you on a beautiful sunny day. This song came out at a perfect time for me in my life when I was a teenager going into adult hood. I'm african american dark skinned and growing up kids often made fun of my color. I also didn't have the most up to date clothes so my confidence was low. This song helped me so much growing up it boosted my confidence and I started to grow into my looks and came to love my dark skin and my beautiful notty hair. I'm now a successful business owner with a bright future ahead and very confident in who I am. I shared this for any person out there struggling with self image, it definitely gets better first learn to love yourself and the rest will follow. You will definitely have the last laugh believe me.

My mama said a lady ain't what she wears but, what she knows But, I've drawn a conclusion, it's all an illusion, confusion's the name of the Game A misconception, a vast deception Something's gotta change But, Don't be offended this is all my opinion Ain't nothing that I'm sayin law This is a true confession of a life learned lesson I was sent here to share with Y'all So get in where you fit in go on and shine Clear your mind, now's the time Put your salt on the shelf Go on and love yourself 'Cuz everything's gonna be all right I'm not the average girl from your video And I ain't built like a supermodel But, I Learned to love myself unconditionally Because I am a queen I'm not the average girl from your video My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes No matter what I'm wearing I will always be the India Arie Keep your fancy drinks and your expensive minks I don't need that to have a good time Keep your expensive car and your caviar All I need is my guitar Keep your Kristal and your pistol I'd rather have a pretty piece of crystal Don't need your Silicone I prefer my own What God gave me is just fine I'm not the average girl from your video And I ain't built like a supermodel But, I learned to love myself unconditionally Because I am a queen I'm not the average girl from your video My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes No matter what I'm wearing I will always be India Arie
