After watching a few of Aretha’s duets with other artists, this is by far my favourite . Mariah was very respectful but still held her own. She hit F5’s just like Aretha. It's funny that people say Mariah tried outshining Aretha when it is so OBVIOUSLY EVIDENT SHE DIDN'T. She stood a bit further upstage, looked frequently at Aretha with admiration and acknowledgment, had fun and performed with her with no other agenda. She was invited to sing, and she did her best. Well, she has to and she can. And about Mariah 'contorting' her body to hit the notes, she always does that because her body is emulating the emotions of the song and moving in accordance to her voice

Aretha wasn’t even stealing Celine’s part, she wanted someone to challenge it out with her and Celine was the one who stood up. You are even more delusional, actually maybe even worse... Are you taking drugs? For the past like 20 years Mariah served so many people with so much PHENOMENAL vocals. You want some examples? Charmbracelet era (CONSTANT F5 BELTS), TEOM era (SONG OF THE DECADE, BEST COMEBACK ALBUM), E=MC2 era, Memoirs era (especially Angels advocate), Merry Christmas 2 You era (damn woman was pregnant and shut up the haters), and even so much more examples! Did you even watch Glitter or are you just judging best on the commentary from other people who actually watched it? I find the story line nice and heart warming, but in terms of directing and a little bit of production it could’ve honestly gotten better. Full of herself? Seriously? She’s really humble and cares so much about her fans! Rude? Seriously? There are worse celebrities and Mariah’s probably one of the most hated just because of “I don’t know her.” Self-entitled my ass! She seriously proved through out all these years that no matter the hurdles or troubles she won’t ever give up and that’s inspiring to so many people! I also like Celine actually and you are making her look bad you sick fuck. Just get out of here and NEVER even dare to comment something like that again on anyone’s channel, may it be Mariah, Whitney, Patti, Taylor, Aretha, and seriously anyone else I am going to find you throughout the comment sections of KZbin and have your immature biased mouth shut again and again and I won’t ever get tired or scared of fighting a worthless garbage hater like you. I love Aretha's tone and power here, and her mixing is less head-heavy than other performances. RIP legend. We should treasure the remaining true legends like Mariah and build them up

I remember this! This was from the first (and still the best) VH1 Divas special. It's also the only time we got to see Aretha, Mariah, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, and Carole King perform on the same stage -- and at the same time. R.I.P., Aretha and Whitney.

R.I.P Queen of soul. Well done to Mariah for giving her respect (and knowing her place by not even trying to out shine Aretha). You can see that Mariah is just enjoying being Aretha’s presence. Mariah looks stunning here, it’s a shame she traded in her natural beauty.

What a great duet. The great Mariah singing with her idol the queen of soul Aretha. For all those saying Mariah couldn’t keep up... Mariah duetted with Aretha. That means singing together and blending not trying to upstage and outsing! She knows the meaning of a duet. Mariah could have sang and riffed much more if she wanted to but she showed respect to the queen on her song and sang to compliment Aretha. That’s class. Unfortunately Mariah always attracts haters who try to undermine her ability and I guess that’s a sign of nasty, jealous haters who know but can’t admit the level of her talent. RIP the great Aretha who led the way for all who followed ❤️
