04/27/21 UPDATE: Mariah Carey referenced this performance by saying, "I didn't do so great on that - I need to watch it again, you guys." It appears, Mariah *did* watch this video again, later admitting on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) “Okaaaay.. I guess it’s not so bad!” That would be an understatement! Thank you to the "Lambily" for all the views and comments on this video throughout the years!

She only stood for Mariah, and rightfully so. Everyone did great, but Mariah rapped pure soul into every word she sung. The color and tone in her voice here is absolutely extraordinary. Her raspiness here did something that her "prime" crystal clear notes of Daydream could never do...
@uchihaitachi59052 жыл бұрын
The thing that separates MC from the countless list of other singers who use melisma is the insane musicianship. Her melismas always seem to fit perfectly with the melody and tempo of the song, to the point where you don't even realise just how much riffing she's actually doing. It virtually never comes across as excessive, to me at least. It always seems to add meaning and expression without being done for the sake of it or to show off. Too many singers often get carried away with showing off fancy runs that display great skill and technique but little to no musicality. That for me is why MC is one of the GOATs.
@legitmimifan3 жыл бұрын

Tampabruh TBH I don't think she ever wanted to be known as "the POP singer"! I believe, and till this day, that Mariah has always been a RnB singer who became very POPular! Has it hurt her? Naw! But in a sense it seems like some of her own songs irritate the hell out of her to sing buttttt they are fan favorites and she cares about the songs and fans. I remember reading something in an article about famous artists who dislike to perform certain songs of theirs that are fan favorites. Madonna: Like A Virgin and Vogue, MJ: Beat It, Mariah:Hero, Celine: My Heart Will Go On, Brittany: Hit Me Baby, Gloria Estefan and a few of her songs and the list goes on. I think she is a true artist by trade though. She is very involved with her projects from the artistic standpoint and i'm not mad

She is the best, people try her all the time but you can’t deny Mariah Carey!!

Omg I'm in tears 😭😭😭 it is as if MC is asking for real, if anybody can sing in freedom and soar on flight like those bluebirds, "why can't I?"😭😭😭I get it, Mariah. People tried to invalidate her gift, but if everyone else can do this thing called singing why can't she? Tremendously powerful, profound and part of her life story in the industry. Bravo!!!!

People say she was raspy, I hear it a little bit but feel that's what made it incredible. Love love love this song. I agree it should be longer and on one of her albums.

This era of Mariah is how I was introduced to her. That signature raspy voice is always magical to me.

It's also cracky not just raspy LOL

listen to kiki's cover. It's great, but there's something about mariah's rasp that just makes you feel something.
@Clavijosofi Жыл бұрын
@@Swahili14Those Mariah vocal cracks are intentional, she's been doing them since her debut. Mariah's tone is so perfect that any raspy sounds beautiful. Don't talk too much, I remind you that your idol could no longer sing after this year.

Amazing F#5 at 1:06. Portato at 0:37-0:38. Legato in almost every part of the song. 1:09-1:10 Staccato runs in arpeggio style. My favorite part is in 1:50-1:54. That run is so eargasmic I even murdered my repeat button.

The90sAreTheBest :D For me this performance shows Mariah's coloratura prowess. I just can't stop listening to the run in 1:50-1:54. It's complex but not messy.
@lambforever24559 жыл бұрын
The90sAreTheBest And I also don't like people comparing this to 1990-1996 Mariah. This performance has far better and more complex runs. Better musicianship and very good pitch.

Cieriocous Evans :D Me too. I love her raspy vocals in this performance. It adds flavor to it. Not to mention the great coloratura runs. And they are varied.

One of my favorite performances of hers, so many beautiful moments. But can we talk about those background harmonies at the end, like 2:10 on? They definitely earned their checks that night.
@rudebwoy23858 жыл бұрын
+Alex Chen Yes! I totally agree! The background was on it! Even in the beginning too. Very rich tone they had.
