Even though she was the Queen, she never forgot her roots or the ones who helped her get there. She acknowledged one of her mentors, the late Clara Ward. Since her demise I've researched her and noticed that the Queen claps with hand held high, she stretches syllables, moans and does amazing runs like her too. Love it! On the night of the taping of "Amazing Grace", Miss Ward sat on the front seat and stared in admiration at her protege. It was a sight to behold! Miss Franklin gave Miss Ward her flowers while she live that night.

Keep in mind that was one of her final public concerts and she had a tour schedule that year, from Indianapolis, Grand Rapids , Chicago, Connecticut, Indiana, New York to Philadelphia and this last concert was one of the best performances that year. She as my idol has my biggest respect for holding her head up high and keep pushing. May you rest in eternal peace Aretha 🫡

She knew she was dying here, loaded with morphine, teeth falling out, she was distraught at having lost the long battle with cancer but truly believed that it was gods grace that had given her the extra years since the initial diagnosis about 8 years previous. Her voice here is a whimper, the physical strength waning, but still she gave her all.

@Mark Drinkwater Don't get things twisted my friend. The Queen of Soul was NOT distraught...she was excited, rejoicing & praising God for blessing her & keeping her alive in spite of the diagnosis the doctors had given her many years ago. She took us to church! You should really listen to The Queen's testimony in this video....she sang the song "Old Landmark" and spoke her testimony to spread the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was NOT distraught. The Queen was a staunch believer in God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son & the Holy Spirit which is of the Baptist denomination belief. In other words, The Queen was a woman with very strong faith but also a VERY SPIRITUAL PERSON...being distraught is not the mindset of a woman of faith or BEING spiritual. Her appearance changed due to the medical treatments she was undergoing...however, she wanted us to know she was a living testimony & a witness to the power of God in her life. The Queen of Soul was the REAL DEAL...a true follower of Christ Jesus and she did not hide it. Perhaps her voice was getting a bit weaker but sweetheart her mind and heart were still in tact...she believed we can turn to God to carry us through all of life's challenges. Surely, God is able.

@@nopjack7278 She was distraught and inconsolable at this point, her family have said so, she had been told by the docs that they could offer no more and her fight was up. This doesn't mean she was a firm believer, but she was devastated at this point of realisation that her time was near and she had just months left.

@@nopjack7278 Her last concert before the NY benefit, where she was skeletal and could produce barely a pitchy whimper, was an open air gig in Detroit, and again she had to be held up, carried up the steps onto the stage and was covered in chemo pads, smashed on morphine and virtually dead. Cancer is a terrible illness. Aretha was brave and gave her all until the end, but it was a sorry pitiful sight for sure. Her last masterclass was 'Natural Woman' at Kennedy Centre, which was at the end of 2015, just before the rapid downhill decline, there were a few shows after that which were mediocre, no great performances after Kenedy Centre, then she cancelled all of her 2017 shows apart from the Detroit goodbye downtown gig. Then the NY Elton John benefit, her final public appearance, where she was a skeleton with barely a voice that could be heard. A tragic ending for what was on her day, in her prime, quite simply the greatest voice in recording history. Aretha had no rivals.
