One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism is a 1987 gospel album recorded by Aretha Franklin, for Arista Records. Recorded at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, over the course of three nights (July 27, 28, and 30, 1987), One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism became an album that combined the gospel talents of Aretha, her late sisters Erma and Carolyn, and fellow gospel singer Mavis Staples.
However, this release had modest sales, peaking at #106 on Billboard's album chart, and paled in comparison to Aretha's legendary classic Amazing Grace recording. It has sold approximately 150,000 copies to date (doubled for its two discs to approximately 300,000 copies to date).
The original release was a double vinyl LP issued by Arista Records in December, 1987. An abridged single CD was also issued removing two tracks (the speech by Rev. Jesse Jackson that opens Side 3 of the vinyl edition, and the Prayer Invocation by Rev. Donald Parsons that appeared on Side 4 of the vinyl edition).

Aretha was some kind of genius. She talked "God Specializes" up to the point that there was NO OTHER SONG it could have been...and she didn't even really give it away but I KNEW that's what was coming just because of how she talked it up. She just had it like that. She was really just as much a preacher as she was a musician and singer. She talked that thing UP!

For Aretha fans the video footage from the One Lord One Faith One Baptism recording concert would be considered a lost treasure.. I have needed to see it for nearly forty years so my gratitude is unbounded....thank you Elijah for this compilation clip... do you know if the full concert is available to watch... apparently it was broadcast on television somewhere at the time....

To me her singing Walk in the Light brings me to tears. I was still in my mothers belly during this recording. Ava Marie is a favorite as well. REST IN HEAVEN Queen. 👑

This is just my opinion: I oftentimes wondered why Aretha never recorded more Gospel or Sacred music. After listening to her "Amazing Grace" album, when you start at Excellence par extraordinaire, where can you really go beyond that? Those vocals which embodied her, where from the Kingdom's throne and no human can outdo God. Can I hear the church say Amen?

I'm not a Christian nor Baptist. When this album came out I was 5 and we were practicing Islam but, Mommy and Daddy had it. It was my first introductions to Gospel music and as far as I'm concerned it is THE BEST LIVE GOSPEL ALBUM EVVEEERRRRRRR

This just brought tears to my eyes 😪my grandma is in her 80’s now and her steps have gotten short but as a Lil boy growing up in the Baptist church my grandma would clear a row on songs like this........ I’m 33 yrs old but i grew up on songs like this..... thanks Aretha Franklin for reminding me that wherever life takes you this is and, will forever be the foundation of who i am in my Christian journey.... Kristopher Cosby Jerry Wexler produced that album Amazing Grace. He was the producer that gave her first hits on 1967 after leaving Columbia which weren't all that great. One Lord, One Faith won a Grammy and Stellar. But it was nothing like Jerry and he didn't produce it. She chose to coordinate that album and it didn't sell well.

Malcolm Nichols Aretha co produced / controlled the album according to David Ritz book (Respect 2014). Unlike Amazing Grace which was more organized , bongos, percussion, James Cleveland choir arrangements. She wasn't the best at organizing such an event. The album didn't sell as well as it's predecessor, however it went on to gather a Grammy and Stellar. It was special to her because it was done in her father's church and the last time with all her siblings together before they passed away. The track may be on the LP I saw one on the Flea Market.
