Aretha was 73 and battling pancreatic cancer when she sang that night and I am so grateful that I was able to see this performance. She was pure gold: at 73, that voice was in full rang…the night was electrifying, w/Aretha bringing the full force of the electricity. RIP Aretha 🙏🏽👌🏽💐❤️and thank you Carole King for writing such a beautiful song. ❤️

She had quit smoking and I was SO glad! Her voice restored (and mid range high's came back). She had been ill but doing well at this point. Her natural hair done, face and wardrobe...fur and purse....Aretha Louise Franklin brought the house to their feet!!!!! Hey, hey Sheroderick!

BABEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! You ain't NEVER lied!!! Aretha had a phenomenal career and life! A career that a singer/musician or any person, could only hope and pray for! God was very merciful to Aretha. Very few people get to live 8 years with advanced Pancreatic Cancer! ARETHA FRANKLIN: THE G.O.A.T.!!!

COME ON LADY SOUL!!!! Her most amazing performance before her passing........(that killer background vocal from Fonzi Thornton, Brenda, Brenda White-King, Vaneese Thomas (Carla Thomas' sister, their father was Rufus Thomas! ) CAROLE KING's reaction is everything!!!!!!

Definitely legendary in all its bold lyrics, the only voice I can compare, that can surpass in terms of power, resonance, historical echo and intensity is Patti LaBelle. But Aretha did this performance giving her all and it was unforgettable, how can someone stricken with cancer, very debilitated, do all that? It's because music runs in her blood, I think she thought about her struggles, the road that took her there and that was the result, ECO!

Carole King looks verklempt. I saw Aretha at Carnegie Hall when I was a kid. The row half under the stage was empty so during intermission, my friends and I sneaked down from the balcony and watched the second half of the show from right at Aretha's feet. Our heads were sticking out just enough to see the stage. Our legs were under the lip of the stage. It was such a great night. I'll never forget it. She was so cool.
