I keep coming back to this video, it haunts me so. The genius of Aretha is beyond anything I could possibly compare it to. When she plays the first few bars of "The Makings of You" I can hear the church in her piano; of course she never left it. Her gift is on display: singing with such emotion, playing beautiful piano and coaching Donnie Simpson all at the same time.

That is so true, i was born in 1997 but only listen to the Real people like Miss Franklin, Ross, Labelle, Warwick, Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield, Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Etta James, Motown sound; those people were Real, Authentic, Charismatic and Pure. I never realy liked the term "secular music", which is what christians call any other music that's not church music. I would go along with what Duke Ellington said, "There are only 2 types of music, good music then all of the rest". This makes more sense to me. People like Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway and countless of others that is flooding my mind have all been accused to some degree or another, of playing secular music. When your singing or playing soulfully, it all comes from a higher power. (Just my opinion).
