@Dudebro13454 Bro Whitney's biggest vocal influence was her mother Cissy Houston. She taught her how to sing. The core of Whitney's style of singing was gospel, and that is what she grew up with. Aretha was without a doubt the better artist with the better catalog. She wrote, produced, sang and played her own songs in piano. She was a very talented woman with very good content as a musician. She was a pioneer in her days who broke barriers for women and African Americans. Whitney had certainly the better voice. Aretha may have belted higher and supported deeper notes in her later years, but Whitney in her prime had a marvelous voice that was God given. The beauty of her tone, combined with its richness, power, and delicacy was beyond anything. She was The Voice and Aretha was the Queen of Soul.

The interviewer is trying really hard to force the issue that there is a relationship between the two when ms. Franklin says there is none. It's not like that these artists are required to be close and chummy with one another. They have their own lives to live. Trying to insinuate and strike up a rivalry is just plain cheap. You can see Aretha mildly irritated but she just keeps brushing off the interviewer.
@pdgf

If he interviewing Mrs Aretha, why he keep talking about Mrs. Whitney for. He is so rude. This is like a sneak diss toward Mrs. Aretha I see why people hate doing interviews plus they always twist your words up.

Aretha seemed to be in a pretty good mood here considering how annoying and irreverent the interviewer was.

I love hearing how women used to speak back in the day. Correct use of grammar and a wide vocabulary. Now, it seems as though people barely have a grasp of English!

The interviewer should have been reduced to ‘tea boy’ or ‘runner’ after that attempt to interview Ms. Franklin - he was appalling! His continuous questioning about whether Aretha was aware of Whitney’s respect for her became almost embarrassing. And the “working with younger artists” about James Brown! He couldn’t even get Dan Hartman’s name correct - he fumbled with “John Hartman”. Aretha was elegant, but also warm & funny. I would have loved to have heard her interviewed by a professional.

The amount of time he took to ask about Whitney, like WTF. Is he interviewing Whitney or Aretha? 🙄
