This was my Mom's ANTHEM! She'd pop a tape into the RCA Mark-8 miniplayer she kept in the kitchen and jam while she prepared dinner for her husband and seven children. We were generally banned from the kitchen during meal prep, except for me, her dedicated "little helper" and her music is forever etched into my DNA. _"Listen to this, Donovan! Listen closely. It's not just random words. It has meaning. It goes for everyone, not just women."_ It became the song I most closely associate with my relationship with the greatest Mom a little boy could ask for.

@@grahamtrezise1114 My Mom is the greatest. She wasn't without faults -- often impatient, a stickler for the rules, and her draconian punishments, while rare, were meted out with neither mercy nor compunction. Her infamous paddle, "Captain Hineygrinder" was feared up and down the bucolic streets of Palmer Township. But she was intelligent, strong-willed, fair, sensible, had no "favorites" and was the world's greatest listener. She taught us to be disciplined, organized, responsible, conscientious, clean, proud, dignified and let us know that there was _nothing_ we weren't capable of. Her expectations were high and so were the successes of her children. Her six sons learned to respect women not through indoctrination, but by example. Her home and family were her whole world, and still are.

This means hold up your head up high. In other words. YOU CAN DO IT!! NO PRIDE. NO EGO. NO SELFISHNESS. AND ALL THE BAD STUFF. HOLD YOUR HEAD UP. GODS GOT YOU. HAVE FAITH IN YOU AND GOD.

I just LOVE this. Had it on a CD in my car years ago and blasted it out while screaming the lyrics down the motorway. Still gives me a big kick.

Music is art. As such ... it's sometimes interpreted to mean different things depending upon one's point of view. I think you really had to be there growing up in the summer of "72" to be able to relate. It was a magical time to be coming of age after Woodstock and the hippie generation of the 60's. " Hold your head up , hold your head high " could have been an anthem for the next generation of youngers coming up through. There were good times and bad times but we sure had fun and pushed the boundaries. Happy New Year 2024 everyone.
