Every WC has some kind of “corruption scandal” to it. I mean the Italy vs Bulgaria game was definitely in Italy’s favor by the refs. They don’t want Bulgaria vs Brazil. They don’t want Italy vs Sweden. They want the 2 big dogs in there. No match is ever fixed. However the refs will usually favor a certain side to an extent. I mean look at all the winners. It’s Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, and Spain. I don’t mention England bc even though they have a massive fan base, they haven’t won since 1966. Spain gets mentioned bc that team from 2008-2012 was insane! 42-0 international record streak I think. The ones that live outside the bubble are Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, and Croatia. Mostly all the other nations compete to make it entertaining.

Had the pleasure of being at this match as a 7 year old - among the things I remember were the many cars in bumper to bumper traffic on the way to the game at the old foxboro stadium ( an absolute nightmare to get to since there’s only one way in ) with tons of people holding their Argentina flags out and waving them with joy/ wasn’t til we got to the stadium that we saw some Nigeria supporters having the time Of their life , playing music and dancing. All the sights and sounds and colors were brand new to me and I didn’t know what it all meant but I knew I was immediately in love with football . How I long for those beautiful days with not a care in the world .

I used to practice that 2nd goal by Argentina all summer of 94’! That goal and Del Piero’s goal in the 2006 WC SF vs Germany are definitely my 2 favorites! Actually Tevez’s goal in 2010 and Maxwell Rodriguez’s goal in 2006 are up there also!

Inexperience cost Nigeria both matches. They played well and scored first, In the match against Italy, Amuneke scored a good goal, Zola was sent off and Nigeria were leading till the 90th minute. Oliseh couldnt tackle well inside the 18 yard box leading to the pass to Roberto Baggio to level. Even after Italy scored the penalty in the extra time, Nigeria had a golden chance to level it 2-2 off a beautiful tackle and pass across italy's 18 Yard from Mike Emenalo, Nigeria had 1,2,3 players that would have scored but Yekini miscued and resultant attempt to score failed as Dino Baggio cleared the ball to safety.

@@olivergamondi4187 if it wasn't a banned substance he wouldn't have been kicked out. It was deleted in 1998. What has that got to do with 1994 when it wasn't deleted and banned. Why would you fast forward 4 years. He was kicked out in 1994. You can't clear him of cheating proactively. Every team in the world cup can only play 7 matches. The winner can not play every team in the competition to be the champion. If he was not on drug his team and association would have protested and fought to reverse the suspension. Cannigia was the first to react to the free kick expecting a rebound if the keeper fumbles with the ball. As a striker, you’re always taught to anticipate where the ball will be to score those Special winning Goals. Nigeria best World Cup team. Been to all world cups since 1996 in Germany and Russia 2018. Nigeria vs Argentina game in Russia was also a sad occasion as the referee denied Nigeria a second blatant penalty by Marcus Mojo who eventually scored the winner behind the sleeping Moses who should have taken the second penalty to probably send Argentina home.... Nigeria loss to Italy 🇮🇹 was even worse to accept as I did not go to work for three days. My only consolation was that my beautiful Daughter ABIGAIL Laura was born on 06/07/94 which was a day after the match. She’s now 25 years old and guess what she doesn’t like football 🙈😂⚽️⚽️⚽️. But who cares, she got a 1st Class in University degree and doing well in life. Am still playing football at over 50 years and will retire when am 65 years old...lol
