The favorites you mention are considered such now thanks to their performance in the cup; the pre-tournament favorites were quite evenly distributed. On the other hand, I wouldn't rank Brazil so high, nor Ecuador and Venezuela so low. Nonetheless, I agree that the FIFA ranking doesn't work well and could be better distributed. Mexico, for example, is ranked above countries like Canada, Chile, and Ecuador, which placed them as a group seed, while Chile, which is much stronger, ended up in the group of death. Still, the situation in the Copa America is not as bad as in the Euro Cup, where one side of the bracket ended up completely empty. The real final of the Euro will be the semifinal from the side with Germany, Spain, Portugal, and France.
