Lewandowski had 26 goals and 9 assists last season. Including 19 goals and 8 assists in La Liga. He’s about to turn 36. If a 22-26 year old striker were putting up these numbers they’d be worth a huge fee on the transfer market. The reality is there are hardly any number 9’s at the elite level who put up these type of numbers. Number 9’s are incredibly hard to find. Particularly with how the game is played today with so much possession and inverted wingers constantly cutting inside to shoot instead of providing service to number 9’s.

Not really. Barca has veterans like Lewandowski and young talents like Yamal. Real Madrid also has veterans like Modric and young talents like Guler and Endrick. The difference being is that the really old guys and the really young guys are subs for Real Madrid because they`ve got players in their prime or approaching their prime like Militao, Vini Jr, Valverde etc. Barca don`t have as long a bench and they don`t have players in their prime. Their substitute level players are asked to carry the game for them.

Barcelona fans have to accept the fact that Robert Lewandowksi will remain as their first choice striker next season. When you’re going up against an elite Real Madrid team that’s far ahead of you, they shouldn’t be relying on a 36 ear old striker to play week in week out being their only consistent goalscoring threat since they’re expecting him to score goals. I don’t blame them for wanting a replacement for him because he’s 35 years old, he isn’t getting any younger, his wages are an issue, on the pitch despite still putting up some decent numbers, he’s on the decline and is no longer a world class striker, also his attitude is very frustrating to watch, but what other choice do they have as it’s not like they can pay 100 million for an elite number 9. Pau Victor the academy player who did very well against Manchester City, we don’t know how many minutes he’s going to play when the season starts and Vitor Roque isn’t being used in his natural position as Hansi Flick needs to find a way to utilize him better as he should be playing through the middle. Yes he’s reunited with his former manager and you expect him to be much better than what he was last season but with his age, Lewandowski isn’t the player he once was his overall game isn’t all that great and other than goals, he doesn’t really do a lot in the team and had they had a proper striker capable of leading the line, he wouldn’t be starting every game and his role in the team, he needs to act more like a leader guide all the young players as the oldest player in the squad and he needs to stop moaning and whining every time they don’t pass him the ball because there are several situations where every time one of his teammates has the ball he doesn’t get the pass he wants, he weeps and when he gets the ball, he wants to do it by himself and when his teammate is open, he won’t pass and that’s the type of player that a manager won’t want in their team and his ego is going to hold the team back. Lamine Yamal as a teenager was Barcelona’s best player last season and there were too many times where he wasn’t open and was getting mad at him for dribbling and going for goal rather than passing the ball to him and I don’t see how that makes sense at all. If he has another inconsistent season, they should consider getting rid of him and with the wages he’s on, they’re going to sell him to balance the books.
