Celestia's face hits me hard. Just imagine how she feels, knowing that her precious student will one day pass on. How she chose to give up her immortality for the chance to live the remainder of her life with her friends. But I don't think Celestia has that option. It makes me wonder if Celestia asked Twilight to make friends because she doesn't have the luxury to do so herself anymore. We never see Celestia with any friends of her own, despite her lessons on the importance of friendship. I can only assume she did have a group of close friends when she was young, similar to Twilight, but they passed on long ago. With the weight of the crown and her own immortality, did Celestia decide that she couldn't afford to lose any more friends? But she still wanted her student to be able to experience that magic before, she too, became immortal. Was Twilight the closest thing she had to a true friend in years (other than her sister)? If so, how heartbreaking must it be to think you may finally be able to keep someone you care about close through the years, only for her to choose to give up that immortality and leave you anyway... I'm reading too much into it, but it just got me thinking what was going through Celestia's mind here.

You're not wrong. I thought of this too, and you make an excellent point. But, if that be the case, then I feel so sorry for Celestia to have to lose probably the only (real) friend she's had in the years she's been living. I would say that is is kind of selfish on Twilight to not think about Celestia's feelings in this, besides her own. She probably didn't even think it through that if she were to pass away, then Celestia would be alone (besides her sister), and she would continue to rule equestria instead of having her big break. But, I can see where Twilight is coming from, she's just not mature enough to decide that even if her friends will pass, she'll have to come to accept it.

I remember watching this show around when it first came out (had already graduated highschool recently) and thinking "This is pretty good. Glad kids have a good show to grow up with." -- TV had become pretty stale at that point for me and FiM was kind of the only thing I ever turned it on for anymore. Hi there random person reading this. Here, have some coffee and a donut in exchange for sitting here with me. This video has always meant a lot to me. As I'm sure everyone who is watching this video: I am a fan of My Little Pony. I found the show around 2014 when I was in fourth grade. I watched the show religiously, joined the fandom as an 11-year-old with unrestricted internet access does, and watched as the fandom grew. MLP was my lifeline. I had visitations with my biological father, a very abusive man, and MLP helped me survive the weekends and Wednesdays I had to be with him. Whenever I would feel scared or sad I would watch the show, listen to Land of Equestria when I couldn't sleep, play MLP roleplay on Roblox to distract myself from him. My dad ended up abandoning me when I was 12. I continued to watch the show and it helped me cope until I... didn't need it anymore. It had helped me, supported me, helped me cope until I didn't need to cope anymore. I got help, went to therapy, had wonderful friends who taught me the true magic of friendship. So I stopped watching. I went back to it every once and a while but it wasn't a part of my life anymore. I'm now 18, about to graduate high school, and...I'm scared. I'm an adult now. I thought I wouldn't be here by the time I hit senior year but I did it. I survived! And I'm scared. To try to relive my childhood I refound MLP, but the show is now over, the fandom beginning to fade, and I wasn't there at the end of it. I missed the last Bronycon, I wasn't there at the premiere of the finale, I feel like I abandoned this show without giving it a proper goodbye. Without thanking it for everything it has done for me. To celebrate graduating I am watching the show from beginning to end. A poetic end to my childhood as I both relive it and finally see how it ended. I'm saying goodbye to this old friend but not for long, just a "see you later" until our paths cross again-- and I'm sure they will someday! So, to everyone still here, here's another donut and a refill for that coffee, and a goodbye. Thank you for being here for me without even knowing it. They never confirmed nor denied that the rest of the Mane 6 weren't immortal but still stick by the claim Twilight won't outlive her friends. So either NONE of them are immortal or all of them are, because if she isn't immortal and won't outlive her friends, Twilight would be the first to die. And just because the rest of them look older by the finale, doesn't mean they aren't immortal. It just means their immortality took a while to kick in and halt their aging process and leaving them in the state we saw them at in the finale. Or at least that's my interpretation

I'd appreciated how this animation looked before, but never really thought on how much of a time sink these things are. I've never used any animation software prior to, but downloaded SFM just to see if I could find my way around the software by fiddling around, and good lord, the sheer level of work that must go in to these things. Mad respect. Twilight can either sacrifice her immortality and die with her friends or live longer than them. Nothing is confirmed as of what happens after the finale but I just commented that this video is even sadder when you take into account that Twilight is immortal, especially after seeing the finale. It started as just a bit of nostalgia, then a single tear, then when she opened the door and saw the statues, Waterworks started. This is what I think happened.. It had been years since twilight's friends,parents and her own brother had passed away. She had enough of being alone, she didn't even want to live anymore, however she knew she could try to find a spell to bring her friends back... but it would cost her a price, her Alicorn magic, and possibly her own life, she told the princesses all of them hoping she would be ok, celestia came with twilight, giving her one Last goodbye, twilight walked up into her friends' santuary. . Her past with her friends flashing right past her... She Had Decided. Using all of her Alicorn magic she Shattered her wings to pieces...the statues of her friends shattering all at once. The spell caused her to fall unconscious her friends towered over her hoping she was ok. Twilight stood up limping. Her plan had worked.

So I had a 12th grade LA teacher who is a huge brony. He wants us to find the true meaning of videos, literature, and poems and this was the first one he picked. The animator doesn't tell you it's story or it's meaning so you need to guess. He had us look certain facts about the show like alicorns and the Mane 6 so we knew what to write. At the end of the year, we were all bronies. On the last day of school, we wore MLP related shirts and toys. When we bring in toys normally, the school makes us give them to him for the junk drawer. He didn't because he was so happy and it was the end of the year too. He was the best teacher ever and most of us still talk to him. Me and him love Dash and will talk about episodes for hours. Today I ran into him at Target and we got a Coffee and some chicken fingers and pizza for me and talked. Still have the yearbook photo of our brony classroom.

This is a beautiful video. I think a lot of people will watch this and not quite understand fully what is happening. As each scene unfolds, a new piece of the puzzle falls into place along with the realization of what is happening. If only I had known the series when I was at school, I suffered a lot from bullying back then and I think the series would have helped me with my emotional problems. If I may put in my two cents. I don't think Twilight revived her friends at the cost of her wings. Rather, I take it that she sacrificed her immortality as an alicorn and the effects of her long life came rushing into her. She didn't revive her friends, instead, she died and was welcomed by the souls of her friends who had waited patiently to be reunited.

+ShaDHP23 that is one theory...the only problem is we don't know how long it's been since her friends passed....it could have been recently, and that with the help of the elements (and the statues) she created a spell to bring them back, but with a major cost...the elements could help channel that energy and legitimately bring them back; as we saw in the episodes where she accidentally switched everyone's cutie marks and then fixed it, becoming a princess afterward, the elements hold their respective bearer's very being in them (whether it be memories, emotions, etc.), so it is possible that the elements could essentially remake all of her friends minds, thoughts, feelings, and memories, and the statues would be made into their bodies (conversion into organic matter is a possibility, but that's not my point in this)....the only other thing that would be needed would be magic to spark the spell, and i mean A LOT of magic since in this case it's bringing back life to the dead....Twilight has that much magic in her as a princess, but in order to do the spell properly (theoretically at least), she'd have to give up all the alicorn magic in her...she could still have her unicorn magic from before, she might also not have it, but in the process she would have lost a large part of her magic and her immortality in order to bring them back.....Just so you know, I thought back to how rituals worked in Full Metal Alchemist for this theory, and how some of the laws in the show worked...in this specific instance I thought back to the Laws of Equivalent Exchange, which, in essence, state that "In order to obtain or create something, something of equal value must be lost or destroyed." (or in this case payed)....in some cases these Laws have a literal meaning, but in some cases, the part of "equal value" is up to the spell caster (something they hold extremely dear vs. something they want just as bad for example)...Twilight loves her friend, and we see throughout the show that she holds them most dear, however, she also cherishes the fact that she is a princess (somewhat) and has a duty to Equestria as a princess, so if we followed the Laws from FMA, her giving up her immortality and her alicorn magic would be of roughly the same value as her friends to her, thus the ritual could work without really any ill effects (That's my theory anyway).

The ending was revealed to be open to interpretation. Here's my head canon, she makes her student Luster her successor, gives up her immortality, retires to Silver Shoals and dies with her friends, Spike and Discord, who binded all their life forces together so they all die at the same time.

OMG This guy predicted the Season 9 finale ending 3 years ago! In the finale, Twilight grows up to look like Princess Celestia and here friends grow old. This indicates they'll all be dead and she'll be alone. In the video if Twilight was shown a Celestia hieght and Princess Celestia would be replaced by Spike or anyone else, this would totally be Cannon!!!!

Yes it does look like she could outlive her friends. But the writers are leaving it up to us. I have a theory. Twilight is going to make Luster the new princess and give up her immortality. I think that's what Celestia and Luna did.

The are immortal so why the heck are they retiring? I think that after a while Twilight is going to give up her allicorn status to be with her Friends again and then Celestia and Luna are the rulers of Equestria again

Still just as beautiful as it was the day it was uploaded. I keep finding myself coming back to this as it is easily one of my favorite works. You were able to convey so much emotion within this video and it was able to hit your audience right in the feels. Words alone cannot describe how beautiful I truly find this masterpiece.

Here's my own little backstory I thought of- When an unknown evil potentially kills Twilight's friends in an attempt to throw the harmony off balance, Princess Celestia manages to take the remains of them, and store them away in a safe place for Twilight to later discover. When she does, Celestia tells her she has one of the hardest decisions she will ever have to make; "Give up your wings, title and immortality, or give up your friends". If she gave up all these things, the power within them would be transferred between her friends, reviving them. (If you've watched the latest MLP movie, imagine them being turned into 'statues', like the storm King did to the three princesses, making it easier to get their magic) However Twilight found this an easy decision. She knew she represented the element of magic, but that didn't mean she needed a title to prove that. She casts a dangerous spell, that can only work if she remembers the precious moments spent with her friends. She remembers the laughing, the crying, the fun, everything. Her friends come back to life once more, only at a cost, as her wings are gone. Her friends step down from the pedestals and comfort her. She may have lost her title, immortality and wings, but she would never lose her friends again.
