My take away from all this isn't the derby rules, it's this: If all you advanced/pro anglers with all your top of the line gear and electronics couldn't catch a fish in cold conditions on Lake Oroville, a rank beginner like me with old, used rods and reels, cheap lures and zero electronics has absolutely NO chance of catching anything on Lake Mead, which is a MUCH tougher fishery... so why would I even waste the gas to drive my boat to the lake? Because that's what we do. Cold or no cold, catch or no catch, we go fishin' with tight lines and fingers crossed. Can't catch 'em from the couch; wouldn't be much fun if we could :) By the way -- if the cutoff is 11:30, 11:30 and one second is PAST the cutoff, which = DNQ.
