Arhoolie Foundation Presents - "Convict Waltz"

In April 2006, Chris Strachwitz filmed the 88 year-old fiddler Milton Vanicor with Wilson Savoy, a star of the current Cajun generation, in an intimate setting. One of the classic Cajun tunes they played was “Convict Waltz,” originally recorded in 1954 by Iry Lejune who Milton had lived and played with in 1950. Milton played with many over the years. He was a featured artist in the Balfa Cajun Music Camp, at the New Orleans JazzFest, and Festivals Acadiens, but did not record an album under his own name until he was 95 years old!

I've come across this particular video a few times in the past several years and it always stirs something in me. I love the sound of French Cajun music. It triggers both happy and sad emotions in me. This particular one is my favorite. So beautiful.
