Even the news is saying its JUST like Brandon Lee's death. No that was not a live round, they werent stupid enought to have live rounds on set. Lee was killed by a dummy round that got lodged in the gun and they didn't make sure was clear. This was criminal malfeasance. There were apparently 3 other "accidental discharges" on set before this happened. Someone needs to go to jail for this.

But, Alec Baldwin is better than the rest of us, he can do what he wants, and it's not his fault. Anyone else knows you're responsible for the gun in your hand, always. Every gun is always loaded, and never point it at someone you're not trying to kill. First 5 minutes of gun safety. And 10 year old Cub Scout on set would have stopped him and explained it to him.

The crew were using that gun for target practice in between shooting scenes. Clearly the crew and especially the people handling the props did not do their job. The fact they were target practicing with the gun in the first place is ridiculous.

I mean unless you're like 8 years old at the firing range and your parents hand you the gun to shoot the first thing you do is check to see if its loaded and if theirs one in the chamber. Everyone is at fault not just the little guys lol.

CV19 safety issues were put ahead of gun safety issues..... and from there negligence abounded and other issues went to shit.. 1. Baldwin was practicing his cross-draw and pointing the gun as he says, at the camera, or, if we use the point of impact as the indicator, at Halyna's chest. While the crew would not normally be behind the camera for this shot, the scene was not action and the camera was being re-set due to shifting light, which temporarily placed the crew behind the camera. When the gun went off, Halyna were there to kill. 2. This breaks all four of the RULES OF GUN HANDLlNG, including the #1 RULE, which is treat every weapon as if it's loaded, even if you're told it isn't, the #2 RULE, which is never point a gun at anything you do not intend to kill or destroy, the #3 RULE which is to never put your finger on the trigger unless you are ready to kill or destroy something, and the #4 RULE, which is to know where your target is, and what is behind it. 3. The AD had picked the gun up from a cart, where guns the armorer had previously loaded with blanks were set aside, and Baldwin was then given the gun by the Assistant Director who declared the gun "cold". Neither Baldwin or the AD checked and cleared the gun. Baldwin and the AD both break the #1 RULE of gun handling, which is treat every weapon as if it's loaded, even if you're told it isn't... i.e., to assume all guns are always loaded until you personally check and clear the gun. 4. The cart is where CV19 comes in - normally the armorer would clear the gun and load the blanks in front of the AD/actor/whomever. Because of CV19 Protocol, gun handling procedures were changed. Under the modified procedure the guns were loaded with blanks and set on the cart in advance of use....to avoid human to human contact.... and CV19 safety issues were placed ahead of gun safety issues. Several armorers turned down this work as the work effort exceeded the pay offered. Regarding the use of the cart for CV protocols, ultimately management found an armorer who needed the work and was willing to take the pay, and by extension might have been accommodating as to protocols. 5. This still leaves the significant issues of the gun being loaded... and where the live round came from. The gun was loaded. Live rounds are never supposed to be on an active set but there was at least one there.There are 3 or more ways this could have happened: A. The armorer mis-loaded the gun, mistaking live ammunition for blanks, which is very unlikely. B. The crew had apparently been using the gun for target practice with live ammunition... which may explain where the live ammunition came from, and there may have been some chain of events which led to live ammunition being added to the blank(s), or blank(s) ammunition being replaced by life ammunition. C. Agatha Christie strikes. There was an angry dispute between the union part of the crew and management over pay, lodging and set safety including gun handling, with the crew reputedly being thrown off the set under the threat of being physically removed off by the Marshall. While tempers were hot having guns laying on the cart may have been a tempting target for someone wanting to prove a point about lax gun safety, possibly intending to leave a "surprise" to be found, and never expecting the surprise to be pointed at a living person.

I think the camera shot they were doing was front on to revolver which you want to see slugs in gun , usually they use shells loaded without primer , with bb's in place of powder and a Slug . The prop master should show the barrel is clear with a rod and load the dummy rounds Infront of actor ( the bb's so you can rattle shell and confirm it's not live ) . Live loaded shells should not be any where near a film set using guns , "prop" is property of set they are often real guns especially common for revolvers as little to no modification is required to make them reliable firing blank cartridges . Alec is a bit of a dick .

The film was setting up a camera shot on Alec as he pulls the gun and points it off to the side of the camera. With the gun (i.e. revolver) being in full view on camera, the production would need dummy rounds loaded into the gun chamber. The negligence falls on the entire production having live ammunition (real bullets) on set in the first place, and secondly mixed in with all the blank and dummy rounds with the Armorer in charge of gun safety on set. That is why the investigation is taking so long. Santa Fe police are trying to know who is responsible for purchasing the live ammunition and having on a film set and not locked away off site when filming.
