My apologies if you already know this, but the reason they played the "Mission: Impossible" music when Captain Oveur was sprayed by gas was because Peter Graves starred in the original "Mission: Impossible" TV series that ran from 1966 to 1973.

The dialogue about the computer, Rock, has lots of references to the malfunctioning computer, HAL, in 2001: A Space Odyssey. For more Leslie Nielsen look for the half hour TV comedy Police Squad. There are 6 episodes I believe.

Noteworthy: The opening music is the theme song from the original Battlestar Galactica TV show from the early 1980s. Peter Graves was part of the Mission Impossible TV show. ROC imitates the computer from 2001 A Space Odyssey (movie). Leslie Nielson had committed to the TV show Police squad and turned down the role in this movie.

"Oh, cut the bleeding heart crap, will ya? We've all got our switches, lights, and knobs to deal with, Striker. I mean, down here there are literally hundreds and thousands of blinking, beeping, and flashing lights, blinking and beeping and flashing - they're FLASHING and they're BEEPING. I can't stand it anymore! They're BLINKING and BEEPING and FLASHING! Why doesn't somebody pull the plug!" This movie gets a lot of hate. Some of it, deservingly so. However you cannot deny that everything William Shatner says is comedy gold. The man is a legend. Fun Fact: At one point, William Shatner looks into a periscope and sees the USS Enterprise from Star Trek (1966). This is the only time the original television version of the Enterprise appeared on the big screen. For the theatrical movies, it had been heavily modified. Hooker Co-Stars Fact: William Shatner (Buck Murdock) and Lee Bryant (reprising her role as the hysterical Mrs. Hammen from the first film, during the courtroom scene), were already working together at the time of this film's release on the television series T.J. Hooker (1982). In that series, Shatner played the lead role of police officer T.J. Hooker, and Bryant had a recurring role as Hooker's ex-wife, Fran. Legendary Prop Fact: At the Alpha Beta base, a technician tells Buck Murdock that the piece of equipment he is working on has red lights that go back and forth, but no other apparent purpose. This piece of equipment has been seen in many science fiction films and television series (including Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan (1982), The Last Starfighter (1984) and an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987)), but its function is never explained.

Warp Drive concept is from Star Trek, the door hissing noise are also from earlier Star Trek movies. You can also see the Enterprise from Star Trek and Captain Kirk (William Shatner) is the Moon Alpha Beta base (Alpha being the name of the Moon base in Space 1999 series). The lab decoration of the base is typical Star Trek lab deco.

All reviewers forget or don't realize the following (I'm showing my age): The Father played by James Noble was the Governor in the popular sitcom "Benson". When she says, "I could use a little breather." We see the great Hervé Villechaize who was M. Roarke's side kick in the long running TV show Fantasy Island who's name was Tattoo. Milliions of folks remember and always repeat his famous line in the intro, "Da plane, da plane!" The ticket agent was the lovable Norm from Cheers played by the great George Wendt.

My fav line from the Airplane! Movies is here in 2 (but i hear it differently than they deliver it, because they did it wrong). It's just as they're getting ready for their approach and Ted says... "we're gonna have to come in pretty low to land this thing" Elaine: but Ted, isn't that dangerous? Ted: of course it's dangerous. But it's just something you gotta do when you land. He should have paused, and looked slightly toward the camera before saying "when you land". But it's still a great line.

You might also like "Transylvania Twist" also it has a lot of the same word-play, visual style gags. And parodies many of the horror movies from Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Hammer Horror films, and that's just in the first 5 minutes. Even if you've never seen The Exorcist, or Hell Raiser, the sight gags are enough to be recognizable as coming from so other type of feature. There are also references to less scarry things like the game show "Wheel of Fortune", and 1950's "The Honeymooners" TV shows. Angus Scrimm from the Phantasm movies even parodies his role from that series. Besides, when I was growing up, I just wanted to be a mash-up of Dexter Ward, from "Transylvania Twist", and Maxwell Smart from the "Get Smart" TV show. Then people watch my Clue: The Movie recreation, {another great movie you should watch if you haven't already}, and they think, yeah that guy's a nut, watch those two shows and you'll see where it came from. :)
