and what you said about ari doing riffs. i really love when she does that, because she's not the caracter here. people want to see ari sing it and not the caracter. some propably didn't even know what song it was

That 'you' where she cut it off, I saw it less as pop and more as the character she's playing being so sad and resigned that she doesn't have the strength to truly hold and ask that question; it's short and fades away, and it read to me as fragile and half-hearted, like this is her last time asking but she already knows the answer too. Ariana's rendition is much softer and subdued/resigned than most interpretations, mostly I think because she's using a microphone that she can get really close to and turn away from. Her character here is like a quiet haunting more than an angry heartbroken woman. Thank you for being so clear in your points; I agree completely that everything she does is a _choice._ She has a ridiculously wide range of not just notes, but genres and styles and emotions. Thank you for your reaction! edit: actually, I just remembered that people said this was _Ariana Grande_ singing "Still Hurting", and I didn't quite see it that way. I think it's that this is Ariana Grande singing while mourning/grieving, and she's not angry when she's feeling that emotion, as we heard in "ghostin'". I think that familiarity with how she expresses grief in song made it easier for me to see the emotion rather than the singer. Maybe :D

I agree, cutting that “you” short felt very emotional, and I felt like her breathiness also gives it more sad emotion than if it was sung with chest voice
