I agree, I think it has more to do with the video trying to appease a wider audience. Most people don't know how to properly go fast around a track and will probably not even notice the grip in the turns. The drifts are meant to make it look like the car is going fast to an average viewer when in actuality people who are more informed know its actually the slower way around a corner.

The weird "Alien crab" object on the road ( at 7.01) is a reflector known as "Cats eyes" that are picked up by the cars headlights enabling safe driving at night - invented in the 1930's they have mostly been superseded by reflective glass beads in the painted road markings.

To the people commenting on the helmet: that is a modular helmet. The piece in the back flips over the top and all the way down to create a face shield/chin bar. He has it n the back position so he can talk.

(3/3) It's perfect for commuting and for short weekend trips, it's as practical as a motorbike. it spends more fuel than a motorbike but is also safer. You wouldn't like to drive a bike in heavy rain. In contrast, you can easily drive this car in the worst weather with adequate clothing an the optional windscreen.

(1/3) I have the impression that Ariel has raised the price over the years. They may try to justify it arguing that it's due to the mechanical improvements such as a most powerful engine, but this is also the case of the CPUs in computers, the same Moore's law also applies to engines. Engines get better over time by the technological advancements, theybeocme more powerful and efficient without raising costs more thanks to incremental improvements on previous designs.

(2/3) What is really needed to keep prices low is real competition with other similar products in the market and a larger acceptance of these cars. Unlike Jethro Bovingdon, I don't think that the Ariel Atom is one of the least practical cars ever. It does basically the same as any other car, it brings you from point A to point B, and it can do so spending the same or less energy that many other cars over there because it weighs much less and has an efficient engine.

You and I think alike. Though, I was thinking of the .50 mounted in the back over the engine. And that would be operated by a third driver who would sit in an added seat. And the passenger riding shotgun... would of course have a shotgun.

That would be the whine of the supercharger right next to your head and yes, why not have all that power. Although it isn't the Atoms "raison d'etre", there's a V8 version has even more power, over 500bhp giving it a power/weight ratio twice that of a Bugatti Veyron, and not that much less (ratio wise) than an F1 car.
