I would agree I think that is what they meant. However, I would say, that argument/discussion doesn't really apply until he needs to get a new contract. Ariel said that's in 3 years, so in 3 years, the show could tank, Ariel could get caught up in a scandal or another issue with a fighter, where the audience sides with the fighter. He has 3 years to do worse, and then he wouldn't be getting paid more, might not even have a job 🤷‍♂️ I get the argument but in terms of profiting off fighters, it's not an immediate thing.

AFAIK Ariel doesn't manage the KZbin account in any capacity, he's just the host of the show. Rick is the social media director at MMAFighting, so he likely decides or at least approves what gets posted and how.

Doug Crosby has been a stunt coordinator in movies and TV for many years. I met him back in the 90's when I was doing craft service on 3rd watch, and Oz. He would bring in fighters for fight scenes. He brought in Frank Shamrock for a shower fight scene on Oz. He seemed like a nice guy. But when you consider that he has personal and work relationships with active fighters, he absolutely should not be judging fights. It's an obvious conflict of interest.

Mine has just steadily increased almost exponentially. Saw some negative takes about him when I first got into mma, but I kept an open mind and invested a little time and respect to digest his work over the last two years, and it has grown disproportionately compared to all other sports journalist. Paying for an interview is categorically against the Journalism code of ethics; has been and always will be as it can influence responses. Ariel was trained as a journalist classically at Syracuse, so it's not really surprising for him to abide by that rhetoric. Regardless, many athletes/celebrities wouldn't gain their notoriety if not for 'free interviews', it's a symbiotic relationship. Journalists get a story, while the interviewee gains exposure. Simply put, Anne Hathaway isn't paid to go on Jimmy Kimmel, she's gaining space in the public eye through Kimmel's platform, which when built upon results in opportunities with financial incentives. And yes, Ariel wouldn't have the same salary without fighters taking interviews; Kimmel wouldn't have the same salary without celebrities taking interviews. There's a give-and-take that is understood by both sides, and it's not without reason. Would McGregor be as big without that 'unpaid' world tour with Aldo? The platform to market yourself is a huge reward with even larger returns.

People watching Ariel are already fight fans or ufc fans. They'll watch because they follow the brand/sport. Rogan there's an argument for, because he transcends just mma. So getting on his show would mean something for free. Especially given paddy already had a paid interview that day he would need to cancel to do Ariel's show. Ariel's "rub" is worthless without any of them. So therefore. Who's really using who here? Ariel's a fan of the 360 deal and thats exactly what he's trying to hide. Ariel is literally a guest in this world of mma. Fighters and media tolerate him. Its really just the aspiring content creators who look at how much money he makes essentially doing nothing but living on social media, and they wanna be just like him.. @@PhenomResurrections08 Ariel’s exposure is of course limited to MMA, but these fighters are gaining exposure in their own market. For example, a good example, Paddy Pimblett. Yes, there was a small amount of people who knew about him through Cage Warriors, but interviews with Ariel of course allowed him to expand his reach and gain a more substantial following, which led to the aura when he came into the UFC. We see Cage Warriors champs come into the UFC all the time without that same fanfare - Modestas Bukauskas off the top of my head. Taking these interviews and giving yourself a platform so people can see and hear you is HUGE in creating a brand, especially in your infancy. Of course Ariel gains from these interviews. The same can be said about literally any journalist. That does not negate the fact it is categorically against the CoE to pay for interviews.

Ariel...I think a great way to explain what you do versus click-chasers is that you're salaried and they work on "commissions". You come in to work every day and grind to do the best job you can, ask the best questions, discuss events and everything else that goes with it without any monetary considerations. These other guys are constantly looking for the next viral video/interview/segment/comment/question or whatever because it could mean an immediate payday on clicks or views and to be honest, that tends to compromise people's integrity.

Ariel has some of the best guests in the history of the sport, and he started as a pretty humble and soft spoken guy. As of recent years his persona has turned into a diff guy, one he calls himself ‘heelwani’. Fair enough. But this complete lack of awareness toward Geordie’s comments is cringe and bologna and I think Heelwani knows it. Contracts are almost completely dictated on clicks, downloads, subscription to channel, etc. to say he’s paid completely and independently to those factors is disingenuous and beyond cringe. Anyone with a job could tell you that their pay is based on what you bring to a company, which in his case is literally clicks and views from his famous guests. He is completely wrong with his take, but I’ll still watch because of the he quality of his interviews.
