There was no reason to suggest that Poirier stood a chance vs Makhachev, he was 4.5-1 underdog, just as Max/Gaethje would be against the champ - whereas Arman/ Gamrot would be much closer odds. Poirier's wrestling/ back-defence is terrible, his TDD % average, and he had already been subbed in 2/2 of his title fights. Seems like cope to say 'yeah the champ's wrestling is mid vs the little strikers, but against the big grapplers he'll dominate'. Again, Ali will probably try and avoid full-camp wrestlers for his next fight anyway (he can just say we already beat Arman, no need to see it again, we want Gaethje)

Dana White is right! Even if you consider P4P to be "who's the best right now," your answer will still be Jon Jones. Let's suppose everyone were the same weight and Islam and Jon Jones were going to fight. I think all of us would be betting on the man who's never lost a fight, who's been in 16 championship fights, who's fought the best of the best, and that is Jon Jones. Regardless of what your criteria are for Pound for Pound, it will still be Jon Jones. If you disagree, ask yourself, "If Islam and Jon Jones were in the same weight class and they were scheduled to fight this year, who are you more likely to bet your money on?" In my humble opinion I don't judge fighters simply based on Winning streaks, records or popularity. To me it's about what Elite fighters you beat ? and When ? Islam to me already has a resume comparable to Khabib. In my book, Khabib has 3 (4 at most) top notch Wins over Elites. Dustin, Justin + Conor. He beat RDA but in 2014 before RDA was at his best. He also had a tough fight with Tibau in 2012. Islam already also has 3 top notch Elite names on his resume in Dustin, Volk + Charles and has lesser noteworthy wins over Arman, Bobby + Hooker. NOONE is touching Jones' resume. He has at least 6 top notch names on his resume. Shogun, Lyoto, Rampage (still dangerous in 2011), Rashad, Gustafsson, DC and that's not giving him full credit for Wins over Reyes, Santos and etc although he was named Winner.
