I remember seeing the promotional photos of these dolls in a catalog and was so entranced. Funny you mentioned how Mattels quality vs. then because nowadays their idea of colector quality is how their playline dolls used to be, while their playline is dollar store cheap and terrible. If they released a doll like this today, they would be $100 platinum label or something. Btw, Belle is my favorite and Ariel is my 2nd favorite so this is wonderful.

Both of you are so cute! I love Belle far more, but the thing you mentioned with hair popping out of hood - it was very common thing in 90s Mattel Barbies - almost all hats, caps, headpieces, hoods - had the same hole for hair to come out... Dolls looked pretty only from the front

Love your honest and detailed reviews! Not sure if you ever check out the Goodwill website but it has tons of Barbie and fashion dolls on sale, many of them are unopened. Great place for collectors looking for a rare find and certainly saved me a good deal of money on my collection. Also benefits a good cause so that is a huge bonus.

Love This Idea! I am panning a Different Type of Ariel Video AFTER Thanksgiving, still working on that, but still in Nov. Congrats Adam for getting a doll you have wanted for so long! THAT is always fun, she's lovely. Sometimes, that hope in your mind, is not the reality, kinda like, they either have nasty or no legs .....might have been better not to know. I wonder if its possible to rebody the Belle doll with the body of another Mattel Belle doll or Barbie with matching skintone from same year mold, that is in better condition. And there are ways to soften the head without ruin the hairstyle with water. Ive seen ppl use blow dryers or putting the doll in a zip lock bag to protect it from getting wet when dunking it in hot water. Love the Ariel. I love that her fin is like a beanie bag as it looks more natural. I was never really fond of Mattel making Ariel looking so mature. She is 16 but looked like 30 imo. Not even Skipper looked that old in her more mature look. And Im pretty sure Skipper was between 14 and 16. Mattel did some good Disney dolls. But I think my favorite brand version was Simba/Tomy. I have Cinderella from that brand and she is very movie accurate imo. Though the best one from them is probably Snow White. Cant seem to remember Ariel for some reason, so might need to look her up. I remember the Winter Moon Pocahontas.
