Yeah honestly it could have been really cool if the backstory/bios would have leaned in on the looks of the dolls, like that everything happens in the somewhat past (because the hair and clothes really feel more 50's to 70's) and they go to some gothic old-timey school. Like working with using the limitations of the dolls as an advantage.

I think on paper Mystixx is a really interesting concept, the idea of being able to switch a dolls face has a lot of potential if executed well. But that was the problem with Mystixx, it wasn't executed well, mainly due to how cheaply made the dolls were. I never owned them personally but even looking at the stock photos you can tell that they were made as cheaply as possible I would definitely not mind if someone did decide to revisit the concept of a doll that can change it's face, but I just hope that it's done better

Thw worst part about these dolls is that thwy had such great potential, they came up with pretty cool designs for all of the dolls and I actually really like the main concept. I just think they needed a bigger budget, and honestly some of the designs definitely need an overhaul done. If I could ever get a hold of one of these dolls in any kind of condition it might be kind of fun to do some doll customization and make something that unlocks their full potential with accessories and with the face sculpts and repaints on those as well as clothing. I dunno. The vampires are probably my favorites, they're more my speed as I have always been super obsessed with vampires, lol. Maybe I should work with a doll company and design fashion dolls someday because I see dolls all the time and think of ways I could've made it better or more appealing based on my preferences as a child and what I've seen online among doll collectors as well.

Heya! Great video essay. I am a Russian doll collector and wanted to give some insight on the topic. Yes, it is a very common practice for American companies to ship off remaining stock of their dolls to Europe and Russia in particular. This happened to Mystixx, Mystikats, Struts and so many more brands. Additionally, one of the reasons why Mystixx were so popular is because of their more affordable price point (equivalent to $15 most of the times) while MH dolls consistently were growing in price (25-30$). Additionally, Russian collectors don’t care and support all knockoff and fakie doll brands; as long as dolls are good, there are no moral high ground like American collectors seem to have in regards to MH vs doll lines they inspired like Once Upon a Zombie or Mystixx. So yeah, that’s the reason why the biggest collectors and lovers of playhut dolls like Mystikats and Mystixx are both Russians:D I suggest you do research Mystikat, as they are my favourites and have cool doll history. Plus there are reference to them in Mystixx which is why it was popular to believe they share the same doll universe. In short, Mystixx rule and I still try to complete my collection❤ Also your mistake regarding MH G2 was very funny😂😅

As a kid, the mystixx doll line was one I did look for, but I guess they never sold in my area as I never could find one. I've tried to do my own research in the past of the doll line but never had the time to go very deep into it, so this video means so much to me!
@deathbunny6508Ай бұрын
The transforming hair on the Rococo Mystixx is probably similar to the way the VIP Hair Makeover dolls hair works. Imagine a strand of hair parallel to a string and the string is connected to the top and bottom of the strand with hair elastics, if you pull the top end of the string it pulls up the bottom of the string and the strand of hair up along it, bunching it upwards into somewhat of a fake bun. It's weird to explain in writing but it's pretty simple when you actually see it. It's definitely a creative budget friendly feature to add to a doll though.

Felt like the grimms were referencing different gods/goddesses Apollo, Aries, Hermes and perhaps Dionysus?

18:33 (amateur) music producer here, i actually really love the song itself with its crunchy 2012 lead and early techno influence, the singing, while bad, reminds me of a song by double take called hot problems (genuinely thought it was a fever dream) that also came out in 2012

I remember when I first discovered Mystixx. It was through a post about Monster High bootlegs and ripoffs in an MH Spanish blog. I remember the owners were pretty impressed with the head-turning gimmick.

47:50 are you conflating G2 with G3 of Monster High?? G2 I believe was the one that really toned down the spooky factor of Monster High, while G3 was released in 2022 not 2018 (with mixed receptions, but IMO I think they’re very cute and still have some spooky factor - they seem to be selling fairly well too). Otherwise, I loved your video. I kinda kick myself for not picking up at least one of these Mystixx when I saw them on the shelf at ToysRus.

omg yes you are 100% right I'm a FAKE FAN (lol evidence I need to give myself more time to check over my scripts before filming)

@@MaryLoveMew heehee, it’s an easy mistake to miss. The rest of your video (and your videos in general) are otherwise just so well researched and enjoyable to listen to. Thank you. :)

I watched Grim and funnily enough it connects to the dual life concept really well, in the show only a grim can see the true for of these 'fairy tale creatures' where as everyone else sees a human till the being wants otherwise

I remember these guys! They did have some sweet fashion packs. My Toralei is still wearing a punk one now. I'm glad to see they had some growth by the end. Very nice video.

This is my intro to your channel. I love the costumes here, but as I was looking at your other vids, I saw your real hair color / cut & it suits you so well!

Love this video! I enjoy doll videos and video essays. This combines them perfectly!

If you're wondering, Grimm was interesting a funny thing is that they ran out of stories at one point so made stuff up near the end. I never heard about this until one of the doll blogs I follow got excited about getting one of the dolls for the Rococo line or finding them, I kind of forgot about it until managing to come across this video. I also didn't know lolita had insperation from Rococo, I was always told it was Victorian but it's cool to learn new things & I can see the Rococo style in it some. Enjoyed lolita style but could only enjoy it as an art because I couldn't wear it both because of price & just not wanting to dress up.

So glad to find another KZbinr who likes dolls! They have a special place in my heart. I collect dollfie dream dolls now as I'm an adult, but western dolls interest me quite a bit even still. Edit: Those Princess prancers... 💀Also, that 2nd wave transition was top tier!
@flossimothАй бұрын
The princess prancers look like they were created by Sid from toy story... like someone took the head off of a my little pony and stuck the top half of a doll on the body lol. I'd say the big issue looking at it is that the scale is completely off. the horse part is too small for the human part

Also,the mystixx are still available at russian marketplaces!There were lots of them in August 2024,even the Rococo Zombies

I used to LOVE this brand. I had every doll released and all the fashion packs. While the clothing fabrics were not always the greatest and the articulation was limited on the dolls, I absolutely love them! It was such a fun concept for a play line doll! I sadly only have the zombie collection left. This I loved the Rococo zombies! I’m also bummed that 2 of Grimm dolls were never released (of course the ones I wanted most). Thank you so much for making this video! It was so fun to see everything again 😊
