I bought my '94 back in 2017 and is currently at 110k km. they are so lovely to ride. I am ashamed to say I haven't taken it off-road like in the video because I don't have the confidence, yet. So in true motorcyclist fashion I bought a second bike, a little Honda CRF250L for off-roading and weekend trips to built up my skills.
@boaro8000 Жыл бұрын
@@roxjeruben that's a great idea for sure! Luckily I've been riding enduro bikes, especially 250/300cc 2 stroke ones, since I was a kid. Looking forward to seeing if I'm capable to bring the old warhorse off-road, although I clearly cannot boast even 1/100 of Riemann's skills

I rebuilt my 2000 XRV750 Africa Twin throughout 2020 back to the frame rebuilt the engine and gearbox even though it didn't need it apart from the output shaft but replaced all bearings and rings and headed of in 2021 around Australia but just did Tassie, Vic, NSW and QLD did the cape twice on the old girl. in the 10 months on the road I did 35,000Km and slept in my tent for over 220 nights, with 55kg of gear including the weight of all bags, panniers. The only two major additions was, Wilbers suspension and excel takasago rims with the rear out to a 3.5. and she went like a dream changed the oil and filter every 4 to 5K still got her and have had her for 9 years. she has done 180,000km and just keeps getting better. As for gear being an old school enduro rider (XR250) always just layered up. Enjoy the trip.

As a long time motorcyclist, dirtbike rider and DS/ADV guy you hit all the good stuff. YES!!! get that weight off the back and high up, it destroys they way the bike handles. Great idea on the "hope I never have to use them" tubes. (a front tube will work in either end). Spring rates!!! do it. The two things you missed on my list are footpegs, good ones make all the difference in control. And folding mirrors. Well and grip heaters!!! Good stuff.

I had the 1989 XRV650 for about a year from a guy who left it in a barn for way too long. Did a full nut n bolt restoration as i wanted to travel around europe on it. She was an animal. Less power than the vstrom i learned on but that power delivery hit like shot. Terrified me a few times i only learned to ride a bike about a year before i got her. The restoration included new shocks and she was way too high for me. But i let the missus use the car to get to work and i rode her in.. hail rain, snow, and the odd sunny day we get here in ireland i was on that bike. No abs, no traction control, and no baffle in the exhaust.. as i like the sound 😂 rode past a colleague on the bus to work, and he said the entire bus shook as i trundled by. Had to sell her as i had to move home and had no garage. Didn't want her out in the rain all year round getting rusty again. The bike was the same age as me and I miss it every morning when i open my eyes and get into my car. Watching this lad use his bike for the intended purpose is like magic to me. Mans a wizard, i cant wait to see what he does with it!

Adam, found your channel couple weeks ago. Very good, no-frills, "lets get out there and discover" attitude, love it!!! Salute you from Córdoba, Argentina. I´m a proud owner of a (dirty and muddy) 92 RD04 with 100K of rough terrain on it (at least what the clock says) , and still going strong though using little due to time. Had three Transalp 600s and now the RD04 I bought 2nd hand in Spain 16 years ago!!!. Best bike ever made? At the least its a benchmark!!! And it aint look that outdated 35 years on!!! And that 90s Dakar look is just unique!!! The Belle Époque of ADVENTURE!!! Those where the days!!! I love it when a brand new (and very clean) GS guy stops next to me at the lights and looks down on me like, where are you going with that old thing... And Im like: hey, your mudguards and visor are shiny spotless!!! Keep them videos rolling, you have a new fan here!!! Enjoy!!!!

You seem to be immune to rain ;-) Thanks for showing your gear. It's perfect, your warhorse. I ride a lighter Transalp 600 with a similar set up, everything pimped up. It's well balanced and indestructable, but an old bike. It will get me through the tracks of Romania (TET and ACT) in two weeks time, about 3,000 miles. Much less than your adventure. But then, Europe is smaller. Hope you keep us informed about your progress. All the best and good weather conditions, Günter/Nürnberg

Like so many others.. I'm real excited about this adventure. Thanks Man!! Thanks for breaking your setup down for us. That's a killer idea for the tubes and spoons. And I'm throwing away my stupid bubble top case 😂 Just got back from a 7 day moto camping adventure in the US on a 10yr old Triumph Tiger 800 xc .. i used it because it was convenient and it came with the bike. .it wasn't my 1st pick, but you know, the proper gear gets expensive. Anyway, I'm definitely going to steal some of these tips from you. I couldve fit all my top case gear on my crashbars.

Great common sense choices & nicely laid out. Working on gear for some longer rides myself and was amazed last week when some low-life throws something over the fence into a tree which then fell into the garden, turned out to be a fully functioning 1A/hr 12v power pack, thanks very much (it was on my list for GoPro charging while camped). I still have a way to go before I'm ready, so I travel vicariously through content, mainly Noraly ,Yourself and a few others. Love the bike, a bit big for my age and condition though. Cheers 👍

I said the exact same thing about modern bike clothing. I purchased a rather nice pair of dainese trousers with the goretex liner on the interior. The results are you become wet anyway because you're sweating so much on the inside and every on the outside is drenched from the weather???? So you're better off not having it or wearing it on the outside. I've always supplemented my jackets with a light rain coat over the top. That way, you have some air circulation. Great Warhorse videos, mate, throughly enjoying them.

So true about those “adventure jackets” with their rain liner inside. Worst on a multi day ride as (mesh type) don’t dry right away so you end up riding with a damp jacket the following day. The innovation I would to see is a compact layered protection gear. Heavier for highway speeds (transiting) and lighter/airier gear for trails and tracks slower riding. I guess also depends on the country or geographic area we ride

You confirm my response to a debate I have with a friend about tyres. I've happily ridden all kinds of terrain on 50/50 mitas, but I'd sooner compromise and have a little looser handling bike on the tar than be a passenger on a 200+ kg torpedo on the wet dirt ! Abs is also a curse off road when it gets slippery and a 50/50 is used, the tyre simply can't grip and the bike just keeps rolling forever, I really don't like abs in those situations even on the 890 I prefer to ride without abs offroad and better tyres for the occasion
