That's up next ... I wanted to ride the ol' girl around Australia in original form first. And we have now done exactly that - she has proven herself as the ultimate ADV legend, and so now I will treat her to a top-end rebuild, which she probably doesn't need but to this day I will never know how many km's she's actually done. The previous owner said they had to fix speedo drive when they purchased her from previous owner. She had 54'000km on the clock when I bought her but who knows, that should probably be more like 154'000km ... ? It doesn't matter, everyone will soon get to see inside the beating heart of the Warhorse!

Well, that escalated quickly ... so cool to read everyone's excitement for the return of the Warhorse. I got about 20 comment replies in and figured I'd just thank all of you with a few words here. I'm so grateful for the like-minded, passionate global community of riders we're forming here on my channel. And while I do have great relationships with KTM, Yamaha, BMW and so on, it's nice to be completely detached from any kind of manufacturer expectation when creating content with my very own motorcycle. I can tell everyone is on the same wavelength with this film, because there's very little in question, just genuine appreciation for what the Warhorse is. Thankyou all ... I look forward to crossing paths with you on the trail, or bumping into you at the bar. Adam.

Great video! recently got myself a 99 Honda Transalp (my dream bike) to adjust for some long distance adventure. I have a question about mods though, when setting up a bike for offroad, do you get wide fotpegs and a longer gear sticks to fit enduro boots to shift and break, or are you suppose to be able to ride the beauty on stock gear? Welcome back to Sweden anytime :D

One very important tip for these engines: Geat a Superpinion front sprocket! These engines have a tendency to strip output shafts like crazy, which results in a very expensive and painful engine overhaul. With time the sprockets become loose and start stripping the splines on the output shaft. especially if the skinny mounting bracket breaks. Your shaft looks in perfect shape so that's not likely to happen soon, but eventually will. I stripped one on my 2001 Transalp 650 this year ( it shares the exact same output shaft and engine, just underbored) which has 95K km on the clock. After reading about the problem, I found out it was more common than you would think. The Superpinion sprockets are a good way of minimising the possibillity of this issue, not only because of the tight tolerances, but also because the mounting brackets are super thick! Look them up, they are not that expensive, and just keep it in mind for the next chain and sprockets set. Cheers!

At 6'28" you'll see Adam apply copper grease to the splines. This is all it takes to save them from wear. A really enjoyable video - I had a RD03 AT 20 years ago and sort of wish I still had it although it was horribly underbraked. Now on my 2nd Transalp 600 (1999 model) with a 650 TA in between. Superb bikes - the 650 TA is IMO better than the 650 AT and the 600 TA a nicer ride than either.

The music was epic... The build is epic... There is something about getting an old bike and making it new again, certainly a labour of love. I have had a '97 VFR750 for 2 years, first road bike in 15 years of ADV bikes. Half rebuilt it and did 2 up /3000km around Tasmania on it recently, never missed a beat. Looking for a KTM950 ADV S now to replace the Super Tenere. To rebuild, find parts, spanner and then ride these older bikes is just a joy. Have bought new before, the research and buying is a good buzz, but a year down the track I just feel a little empty.

Did all of it on my own and learned as I went, from full race tech goldvalce rebuild to converting from AC to DC...it is a dirt model.. full LED lighting including off-road lighting, lowered footpegs, raised bars, new seat, and a light adventure/dual sport tank and rear bag setup. Came off a brand new Beta 300 I had up until last year but honestly love riding what I've built. I've enjoyed watching every one of the videos in this series. Thank you!!

Unfortunately, doing the engine work myself resulted in a few big errors which ultimate caused the left side case to literally break in half on it's first ride. That happened to be on my birthday as well. What a gift, I actually cried after I got home for a moment. Thankfully my suspension guy was there to give me the number of a friend of his who hooked me up and got the engine sorted right, $250 in labor the $700 worth of parts. Still can't thank that guy enough. When I got that bike started and rode it for the first time, I was in heaven. Now i'm in the process of doing a frame up 95 cr250. The engine is strong this time so i'm gonna leave it be until I need to send it out, haha.

Outstanding video Adam! You're the last of a dying breed of men. One who can take an old motorcycle and make it better than the company put out. You even had the powder coater apply a zinc primer prior to the white for a life long finish.

I literally gave this video a stand ovation in my living room. What a journey this bike is taking us all on. You’re absolutely right. Brining an old bike back is a spiritual journey. The machine becomes an extension of who you are. I think I can confidently say that everyone here is waiting for the future of the warhorse.

Love this so much! Especially that ziptied windscreen! It reminds me that we have fallen, and will fall again, to get up again. We’re frail, that’s why we are motorcyclists.

Halfway through when I was watching you fit back the parts and order the fairings, I said to myself, I sincerely hopes he keeps the zip-tied windscreen. And you did, I almost cried when I watched you refit that screen, because I share the same love for motorcycles. All the best mate, I've really enjoyed watching the series on the Warhorse and I cannot wait to see her in the future.

Your quote from 4:05 to 4:35 is one of the most profound things I've heard someone say about motorcycles, and it certainly rings true for all of my bikes (except for the few jobs that I haven't yet developed the skills and confidence to do myself). Knowing your bike as well as you can is perhaps the most overlooked aspect of adventure riding, but as you pointed out it's more than just being able to fix it on the side of the road - it becomes part of your world and your story, and helps you become one with the machine. It's a very Zen approach which may be at odds with how some people approach it, but you're on a winner as usual. Also love the numerous silent tips & hints you inserted for servicing / checking items etc along the way. Love your work.

I bought a Hayabusa and a ZZR600 recently, and realized after buying them that the previous owners were unacceptably stupid. You want to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I always trust that people are good. But for some reason people are horribly stupid when it comes to motorcycles, and they don't tighten bolts, they spill oil all over the fairing, they don't ever clean or oil the chain, and they allow a cat to scratch the hell out of the back seat. The next bike I purchase, I'm going to specifically point out the stupidity of the owner, and I'm going to tell them their motorcycle isn't worth the asking price. I'll never make the mistake of paying the asking price again.

I don't have a motorcycle. I only have experience from 50cc Honda Monkey from my early teenage years in the nineties. Africa Twin was always my dream bike. I've seen three of your Warhorse videos of this beast of a machine. And now seeing glimpses in this video of how you put the bike together is just absolutely awe-inspiring. I've really no idea what you're doing there but I'm fascinated. I'm a computer worker, I don't have any practical mechanical skills but I got very inspired by this video. I feel like it pushed some changes in me that I've been hiding. Absolutely brilliant inspiration. Subscribed! This is what I love about KZbin.

Best motorbike ever, it was everybody's dream back in the 90s, I was a youngster back then and I could only dream about having one. Now I have the money but the quality and reliability of the current AT is nowere near the RD04. I own an Africa Twin 2023 and I will happyly trade it for a RD04, or RD03 in mint condition. That is how much guys like me appreciate "your" bike. Congratulations for the fantastic restoration work you have done.

SO interesting to know how popular these were. This was not a bike on my radar in the 90's ... I was a teen worried about girls and how I'd get parts for my shitty old two-strokes. When I bought the RD04 last year, I had no idea I found a legend.

I’m so glad you kept the stitched screen. Love all your stuff. I doubt you’ll read this. I’m 65. My first road bike was a brand new XT500 after, like you riding heaps of junk on the fields from the age of 13. I can’t ride now because of illness and am pretty much housebound but you’ve got me looking at Africa Twin prices 😂😂 ride on brother. Be safe. Graham. UK.

Bringing a warhorse back to life is a story that should be appreciated. There is one 1996 model in the country where I live (Turkey) and I have been following it for a long time. After watching your video, I can't describe how much of an inspiration you are to me. At the end of the video, I want to raise a glass to the wine you poured into the exhaust for you. I wish I could find the parts that need to be restored as easily as you, but unfortunately it's not so easy here. Remembrance, on the one hand, I'm willing to take this risk to raise a toast to you. Thank you for this beautiful video, your effort and energy ✌️

Incredible! I bought just the same one as you, 6 weeks ago.RD04, 1992, 50000km. I pulled it apart and aside from the powder coating, I am doing the same as you did on the bike. Got YSS progressive front suspension, and fork overhaul. Still waiting for the rear YSS damper to show up in the mail. You gave me a nice idea to do the bottom plate in black 😊 Ik bought the bike before I discovered your Chanel and I owned 5 transalps in the past and dit the 1988 Paris-Oslo- North Cape with one. Beautifull landscapes in Scandinavia.
