We meticulously powder-coat the frame, replace worn and broken parts, lubricate and grease every moving component, clean and check every electrical connector, hose and cable mechanism.
To preserve its original glory, we tracked down replacement fiberglass fairings, which were expertly spray painted to match the iconic 1992 RD04 Honda XRV750 Africa Twin colour scheme.

That's up next ... I wanted to ride the ol' girl around Australia in original form first. And we have now done exactly that - she has proven herself as the ultimate ADV legend, and so now I will treat her to a top-end rebuild, which she probably doesn't need but to this day I will never know how many km's she's actually done. The previous owner said they had to fix speedo drive when they purchased her from previous owner. She had 54'000km on the clock when I bought her but who knows, that should probably be more like 154'000km ... ? It doesn't matter, everyone will soon get to see inside the beating heart of the Warhorse!

Well, that escalated quickly ... so cool to read everyone's excitement for the return of the Warhorse. I got about 20 comment replies in and figured I'd just thank all of you with a few words here. I'm so grateful for the like-minded, passionate global community of riders we're forming here on my channel. And while I do have great relationships with KTM, Yamaha, BMW and so on, it's nice to be completely detached from any kind of manufacturer expectation when creating content with my very own motorcycle. I have a question about mods though, when setting up a bike for offroad, do you get wide fotpegs and a longer gear sticks to fit enduro boots to shift and break, or are you suppose to be able to ride the beauty on stock gear? One very important tip for these engines: Geat a Superpinion front sprocket! These engines have a tendency to strip output shafts like crazy, which results in a very expensive and painful engine overhaul. With time the sprockets become loose and start stripping the splines on the output shaft. especially if the skinny mounting bracket breaks. Your shaft looks in perfect shape so that's not likely to happen soon, but eventually will. I stripped one on my 2001 Transalp 650 this year ( it shares the exact same output shaft and engine, just underbored) which has 95K km on the clock. After reading about the problem, I found out it was more common than you would think. The Superpinion sprockets are a good way of minimising the possibillity of this issue, not only because of the tight tolerances, but also because the mounting brackets are super thick! Look them up, they are not that expensive, and just keep it in mind for the next chain and sprockets set. Cheers!

This April I flew to Germany to purchase a 93 RD07, rode it through Western Europe (NL, B, Fr) and brought it home to Canada. The comment you make Adam, about it being someone else's bike until you have taken it apart is so true. I have not brought it down to the frame (Yet, this winter) but its such a magnificent machine... It is not easy to put it into words but your videos are doing the AT's justice. I don't have a motorcycle. I only have experience from 50cc Honda Monkey from my early teenage years in the nineties. Africa Twin was always my dream bike. I've seen three of your Warhorse videos of this beast of a machine. And now seeing glimpses in this video of how you put the bike together is just absolutely awe-inspiring. Watching from America at this moment, I own a 17 I bought new. I lost my left arm in 09 and so happy that Honda has the DCT model. I recently finished the COBDR and most of the TAT on the Honda 450. I wish I could get a auto clutch so I could buy an older AT. Thank you for another awesome video!

It was a golden era. Honda's were always priced a bit higher but everyone was built beyond what was required. Buy cheap buy twice. With honda you got at least what you expected. I've actually moved over to bmw now but I loved every honda I had. Had several. Mt5 mb5 cb125rs xr250r xr125l xl250r cd175 CB175 cbx550. Riden loads of friends honda's mtx125r cb250n.

The progression of taking an old bike and making it your new bike is always reward, albeit sometimes heart breaking in the process. Restored my 98 cr250 front to back and did the engine work myself. Unfortunately, doing the engine work myself resulted in a few big errors which ultimate caused the left side case to literally break in half on it's first ride. That happened to be on my birthday as well. What a gift, I actually cried after I got home for a moment. Thankfully my suspension guy was there to give me the number of a friend of his who hooked me up and got the engine sorted right, $250 in labor the $700 worth of parts. Still can't thank that guy enough. When I got that bike started and rode it for the first time, I was in heaven. Now i'm in the process of doing a frame up 95 cr250. The engine is strong this time so i'm gonna leave it be until I need to send it out, haha.

Man, Believe me, I just got Goosebumps seeing the feeling, the care and the affection you have for you bike, When you own a motorcycle, it's become your own child. You know her very well, she is dumb but you can understand her pain, her joy, her fear, her courage, her strength, her weakness, her challenge accepted mentality by her expression, by her sound. The music was epic... The build is epic... There is something about getting an old bike and making it new again, certainly a labour of love. I have had a '97 VFR750 for 2 years, first road bike in 15 years of ADV bikes. Half rebuilt it and did 2 up /3000km around Tasmania on it recently, never missed a beat. Looking for a KTM950 ADV S now to replace the Super Tenere. To rebuild, find parts, spanner and then ride these older bikes is just a joy. Have bought new before, the research and buying is a good buzz, but a year down the track I just feel a little empty.

Definitely not up to the scale of the AT but I've spent the last year or so building up a 1999 Suzuki DR350 that I'm very proud of. Did all of it on my own and learned as I went, from full race tech goldvalce rebuild to converting from AC to DC...it is a dirt model.. full LED lighting including off-road lighting, lowered footpegs, raised bars, new seat, and a light adventure/dual sport tank and rear bag setup. Came off a brand new Beta 300 I had up until last year but honestly love riding what I've built. I've enjoyed watching every one of the videos in this series. Thank you!!

I'm really happy I found your channel and I've been trawling through your videos mostly on Tenere 700 and now on the mighty Africa Twin. I remember when I was 18 and this bike was my dream machine. Your content is slowly but surely pushing me towards buying an adventure bike again after I parked and eventually sold my Honda Dominator. Incredible! I bought just the same one as you, 6 weeks ago.RD04, 1992, 50000km. I pulled it apart and aside from the powder coating, I am doing the same as you did on the bike. Got YSS progressive front suspension, and fork overhaul. Still waiting for the rear YSS damper to show up in the mail. You gave me a nice idea to do the bottom plate in black 😊 Ik bought the bike before I discovered your Chanel and I owned 5 transalps in the past and dit the 1988 Paris-Oslo- North Cape with one. Beautifull landscapes in Scandinavia.

Man, I celebrate every single Warhorse video. I love the fact that you kept the fixed windscreen. Telling a story…I also think that the XRV 750 is a unique legend, the best bike ever…like a 80 or 70 series Land Cruiser in the car world. Already as a child and later teenager, I adored this bike. I sold mine years ago and have missed her ever since. Your videos on the Warhorse were the last missing piece. I will get another one and will never sell it again. Keep up your great, inspiring work. I love your videos.

Great work with the warhorse. After I had my first taste of offroad driving with a rented bike, I spend my last summer getting the warhorse's little sister, my 1993 Transalp ready for the dirt. It's amazing how well these old bikes behave offroad with just a little bit of modding. The Africa Twin and the Transalp are the definition of "Old but gold."
