I bought this exact mower for $100.00 last year from a guy that was totally disgusted that it blew the 17.5 hp engine after 12 hrs. I pulled an old 12.5 hp Briggs off of a 20 yr old donor Craftsman Silver Series that had a Busted deck & bad transmission , and it mows awesome , I love it , and it mows down tall grass on 2 or 3 acres several times a month !! It is like brand new & the first Ariens I've ever owned and I use it hard when I mow .... it's a pretty stout machine !! 😎👍🏻

I have a 46" Ariens with the same problem (right side) but I ran into tree going full throttle ( the head lights don't work) >>>> my axle and spindle will be here next week>>> thanx for the vid!!!

Thought I would give a report on removing the Bolt that holds the Axle on>>> After doing exactly what you did by removing the muffler bolts... it would not move st all... the bolt was jammed up against the Muff & that was IT! Only thing that I had left to do was to loosen the exhaust pipes from the engine... not going to happen>>> I had to get my dremel with a cutoff wheel & start cutting into the bolt between the frame & the Muff>>> Cut and rotate...Cut on 4 sides & then take a crowbar and Bust the Sucker loose (2 cutoff wheels) When replacing this bolt I went to Lowes & bought a 3.5 inch 7/16 bolt ...push it in from the back towards the Muff... lock washer/nut/lock washer/nut. have fun yall

Have you done a video on how to change your belts on your Ariens lawn tractor. Sometimes the belts and pulley’s need changing. I see the need for a step by step process for solving those problems. Where do you order your lawn tractor (Ariens) parts from? Thanks! Bob

That would have been a good video. Unfortunately, I no longer have the mower. Is there something that you are having trouble with? I usually get the parts off of eBay or Amazon. I'll go to the ariens site first and get the part number to make sure I get the right thing.

Great video, Thank You! I have a similar situation with my 42" Ariens mower, but I don't see any cracks in my axle. In addition to my two tires being out of whack, my steering wheel is sometimes off by 180 degrees (seems to just spin). Will replacing the axle fix this too or is there something else for me to check? Thank you.

That seems more like a steering linkage problem. At the base of the steering column, under the mower there is a gear that moves a plate that is connected to the two bars that move the front wheels. that is where I would start looking.

The muffler was in the way. I had to loosen and move it a little so I could get the axel bolt out.

Sometimes it feels good to vent your frustrations :-). It wasn't a long term solution, but it enabled me to finish mowing, and then wait for the new axel to show up in the mail.

I do not need to replace the axel but the piece that the wheel attaches to (right side), anyone know what part number that would be or what that part is called?

Ariens calls it a steering spindle. The part miners are different for right and left side. Go to their website and look up your model number to get the correct part number. once you have the part number you can check ebay to see if you can get one cheaper.

I go to the Ariens website and look up the part, and then search the part number on ebay to see if I can find it for less. In this instance, the part number for the axle on my mower is 21546681 and it costs $76 + tax and shipping on the Ariens website. On ebay there are currently 2 listings. A new one for $68.99 and a used one for $40. I bought the one in the video on ebay it was new and total cost was around $53. Hope that helps.

Have you checked the Ariens website for the parts? You should be able to enter the mower info and then find the parts diagrams for the parts you need and get the part numbers. Once you have the part numbers, you can look them up other places (like ebay) to see if you can get them cheaper.

That is unfortunate. If you need one, you may also want to look at craftsman/husqvarna part #532418168. I just did a quick search and that popped up. It may be the same, it may not. Check it out carefully. It looks similar to me.
