The Arisaka rifle (Japanese: 有坂銃, romanized: Arisaka-jū) is a family of Japanese military bolt-action service rifles, in production and use since approximately 1897, when it replaced the Murata rifle (村田銃, Murata-jū) family, until the end of World War II in 1945. The most common specimens include the Type 38 chambered for the 6.5×50mmSR Type 38 cartridge, and the Type 99 chambered for the 7.7×58mm Type 99 cartridge, which is comparable in power to a modern .308 Winchester round.

To give everyone here a little taste of reality. The Imperial War Ministry ordered for mass executions of 250,000 Chinese civilians in retaliation of the Doolittle Raid, an American bombing on Tokyo, 1942 that killed no more than 50 Japanese… That is but ONE event in a pan-continental occupation. To downsize or straight up deny the reality of how fucked up things were is downright an insult to humanity itself and a stain on the reputation of the Japan of today. By no means am I saying Japan hasn’t changed. In fact, you can’t even compare the two today. Japan today is one of the shining beacons in the world. A rich respectable culture with a wonderful population. Just because your ancestors have done profoundly messed up things, doesn’t mean that you bear the shame. You honor your nation by being who you are today and knowing what is right and wrong. I hold my ancestors to such an accountability, and I am proud that I am not like them or would ever repeat what they have done.

It was a good standard service rifle fielded by Imperial Japan. Arisaka in the hands of IJA/SNLF troops served impressively against Allies troops armed with Springfield 1903, Lee Enfield, vz. 24, Mosin Nagant, Hanyang 88, only to be outgunned and out-powered by semi-auto M1 Garand.

@Tower0798
@Tower0798 3 жыл бұрын
The Arisaka Type 99 rifle uses 7.7x58mm rounds which were meant to replace the earlier type 38 rifle (6.5x50mm) as the Japanese found it underpowered compared to other nations' firearms. 1 advantage the 6.5x50mm round had was that it produces less smoke and flash, so good for concealment. The 7.7x58mm I believe has about the same ballistics as a British .303. (This you'll have to find an expert). The Arisaka rifles all in all are very well made rifles. Just probably at the end of the war, Japan had to do short cuts so that quality of the rifle dropped. Even those poor quality ones were still in a way decent.

No it was not underpowered. It has same power as 308, 7.62x54r, and 30-06. Slightly more gun powder than 7.62×54r, slightly less gun powder that 30-06. All in all there is no difference other than the bullet going ever so slightly faster or slower than the 30-06 or others. In fact you could say it was worse having 30-06 because it would be a heavier bullet and thus youd be carring around alot more weight.

@@averagetype5heavyenjoyer The wild infantry charge with battle cries, where the order to overrun enemy positions was given and each soldier acted for themselves, would have some impact on the enemy's morale, but mostly it was for the morale of friendly troops. Heavy casualties were expected during the initial phase of a charge, and this was a way of ensuring the men wouldn't start hugging the ground or even straight up flee. If each soldier is engulfed by adrenaline, the vision of the individual soldier narrows down and he can only see his rifle and bayonet, and the enemy ahead of him.
