At 24:49, The Drip Rifle was basically a mounted Lee Enfield Rifle tied with a Water Bucket that was used during the Gallipoli Campaign. In order to have the gun fire, two buckets with one empty while other is filled water as to drip onto ther other bucket tied to the trigger to allow preasure to shoot. Though the downside is that, it took lots of time for one single drop of water to fall in and you have to manually cycle the bolt every single shot.

It was meant to be left behind as a distraction anyway They only loaded 1 bullet and already left beforehand

Bad try : the Landing of gallipoli was a Big ottoman defeat, all their defensive broken, they had/have to call for massive german military support in form of troop, ammunition, artillery, warplane ans their pilots, military advisers such as von seeckt, and significant diversionary attack in the western front to force the allied expeditionnary force to divert. In 1917 and 1918 the same thing was repeat with even more Germany, austrian and hungaryan direct military support but it was another decisive defeat for them.

do you know what movie this is?
@rogueriderhood18629 күн бұрын
The rifles with the water cans were used during the evacuation of Gallipoli to give the impression the Allied trenches were still manned. The evacuation was a resounding success, probably the only part of the campaign that was.

0:50 this is the Somme in 1918, by then the British & allied armies were using more effective squad tactics then this, there would be more accurate artillery strikes, smoke shells for coverage, airplanes doing early CAS(Close Air Support) and Lewis gun and snipers covering for the boys.

Hey does anyone know if the lee enfield mk3 had only the smle version and the soldiers in ww1 only used the smle version or was there a full length version they used
@ridge2542 Жыл бұрын
In 1888 the Lee Metford was introduced in british service, replacing the old Martini Henry (1871). In 1895 they introduced the Magazine Lee Enfield (similar to the Metford, but different sight and rifling). Then in 1904 they introduced the SMLE (Short, Magazine Lee Enfield), the long lee enfield was also used but only really by rear echelon units. Hope this helps.
@rogueriderhood18629 күн бұрын
The Long Lee Enfield was used on the Western Front by Territoriak Force units. I read an account of a TF unit after the Battle of Loos that managed to equip itself with SMLE's from casualties and rifles discarded on the battlefield. They omitted to acquire the P.1907 bayonets, however, but when they tried to indent for them the army wanted to know why the unit wanted bayonets they were not authorised to have. The result was, they had to hand in the SMLE's and were re-issued with Long Lees. That's the army for you!
