On my type 99 it has the same manufacturing stamp the guy at the pawn shop gave me a small slip of paper after purchasing the rifle that had some interesting information on it reads that it was made by the toyo kogyo factory for kokura arsenal in Hiroshima Japan unfortunately mine has the crysantam filed off it does still have the anti aircraft sight it is missing the wire mono pod and bayonet and scabbard plus the cleaning rod but still is in great shape for a early model type 99.

Such a great condition Arisaka. Back when I was shooting a lot of milsurp bolt guns I was never interested in Japanese stuff, that's changed recently and this video makes me want one even more.

Technically they are the same factory, but after the No Series the name changed from Tokyo Arsenal to Kokura, they used the same marking but there was a transition. I don’t exactly recall the year but if I’m not mistaken I put a link in the video description to a chart

I was given a type 99 last ditch, and a type 38. They are both in exceptional condition. My type 38 has been a mystery until tonight though because of the markings on it. I have been trying for about 2 years now to trace it and finally made some headway tonight. It is apparently a Jinsen pre production teaching rifle, and from what I can tell there weren't many of them made. I wish I knew how to research this further

I recently acquired one of these with the chrysanthemum intact. I would be interested to know how much you paid for yours and what the current monetary value for these are. Mine had a tape on the stock with $150 but I would assume it’s worth a little more than that. The condition of mine is similar to yours but the stock is in much better condition with no deep scratch marks.
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry

You got a smokin’ deal! Usually with the Chrysanthemum you’re starting price will be about $800 to $1,000. I believe I paid $650 and that was a good deal (I’ve seen Type 38s without a Mum sell for $600)

I just discovered this channel. I feel like I've seen you before on another channel. Were you on forest firearms? Few years ago i saw a video on a type 38, but after firing, the shell case didn't want to extract. You smacked the bolt with a stick to eject it. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was you. I couldn't find that video again. Anyways i subscribed, you have the type of firearms i like. Specially bolt guns from either ww1 or ww2. Hope to see your type 99 vid. I collect these guns as well. Steinel ammo is great. Since this ammo crisis is going on, I've been ordering blanks to save the live ammo that i have. Atlanticwallblanks.com has all the blanks for all the old military rifles. Perfect for those who recently bought an old gun & can't find ammo.

I have a sporterized rifle that ws my grandfather's. Its chambered in 6.5. Does that automatically make it a 38 or could it be one of the others? The flower is missing, it has two vent holes and there's some symbol behind them. Thanks for explaining the safety. I wasn't sure it even had one. I wasn't able to see your symbol on my tiny screen but I did some googling and its the 38 symbol.
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry 8 ай бұрын
It is most likely a Type 38, though it could possibly be a Type 30 or Type 35. If it were a Type 30 or 35 it would have a very different safety mechanism though, so if the bolt and safety look like this one it was originally some variation of Type 38 👍🏻

Morning Thomas. Does that bayonet fit your P14/17 by any chance?:-) The bolt release is straight P14/17. Its old news that the Britsh adopted the Japanese style bayonet for the SMLE in 1907, but till now I've never realised how closley. Though the Quillion was removed as it was found to snag on everything. which hints at a major difference in doctrine. Araskas were in Britsh Service, mainly Naval in the Great War. As soon as the Lockdown finishes I'll bemaking a beeline for Portsmouth and the Musuem of Naval Firearms, they have a closed collection of all sorts of small arms ,including some from the German High Seas fleet, to see if they have a example Arasaka. It has started me wondering how much influence the Ariska hadon the Boys at Enfeild rhough.
