In this video we explain what is the operational window of a modern GT3 car.
Why it is important and how to judge if your setup is still working or has drift out of the useful range.
Case study of a wrong setup and how to bring it back to proper values.

Aris this is the type of content the enthusiast simracer needs from a physics dev and a developer in general. Lots to learn here. As many have mentioned we would like more like this but for other cars like the death machine Huracan. Thank you again.

What I learned from this is that I should probably just use the safe setup and stop thinking I'm clever.

It's fantastic stuff you present Aris. I'm honest: I was pretty disappointed with the release and some of the things they didn't work at the beginning. Because of that I only spent around 35h from EA to last week when I noticed your video-series. What ACC now provides is, in my opinion, a masterpiece of physics and simulation model. No suprise I did some more hours on the weekend and I'm stated now at 63h ;). Becoming a big fan of ACC!

The preload alone is enough to make the car undriveable on liftoff. Really a point as why i often do not advice people tinkering with setups if they don't know how it all works. Makes it even more important what you do with this series. making it understandable for amatures like the sender and intermediates like myself and i am quite sure even pro's can learn a thing here and there.

Hello Aris, I want to thank you for your incredible help in terms of setups. It’s so much fun to listen to you and your amazing and well made videos. It’s getting better and better for me to setup some of my favorite cars in ACC. Thanks for taking your time to make us all better simracers...or at least me😉 All the best for the future of ACC and of course yours. Best regards from Berlin

It's ok. Simulators always must move on and try to become more realistic. AC was extremely good for its time and still is now, but with ACC we could focus on even more aspects.

wow thanks Aris ! You've confirmed something I felt during a CP race. My pace was faster in the beginning and at the end. But in the middle of my stint, I was slower. I couldn't explained why I was slower but I guess it was due to the operation window of the car

Hi Aris, I am very thankful that You started to make this kind of videos. I drive mostly Lexus in ACC because it feels just very stable and easy for me. Like on the comments below I would love if you could make some small tips about the less used cars in ACC.

we all started from scratch once. and tried to make the existing setups faster. most of us did try and error ... the important thing is that you feel something, feel what the car does when and which inputs you make. at some point you think about the changed things and quickly realize that it was logical and that it didn't work. now you have do go the other way as before. then you get to the point of motec and don't know exactly what to see and read there. I've been doing simulations for 13 years and have tried a lot from the start without motec ... now with acc i read my setup and feel everything the car does and correct the dampers and fft's. and then I´m 1.5 - 2 sec faster. thank´s for that simulation.

Hi Aris, first of all - thank you for your content, especially love the Setup & physics description videos. Can you please create a video about different behaviours of cars with front, mid and rear engine? There are for sure some differences to focus on while doing setup for different types of cars. I am driving Porsche and sometimes I am not sure about correct adjustments to the setup so I need to try a lot. Thank you, keep it up!

Hello, Hopefully it gets more people to work on their setup . and maybe just maybe we no longer see people in ACC with top 5 in 1 second gap and the other 21 5 seconds away ( in the matchmaking) . I like but one Car in ACC ; the Honda NSX old and new , and i'm pretty good with her operation windows ...we can say i have a degree on Honda engineering ;P. i can drive other cars with ease too except the Lambo .

Hi Aris can u make in the Future Force Feedback and Brake Settings by Hardware also in the Game..do you use DD2? Great Job all of your Videos ;)
@ArisDrives
@ArisDrives 4 жыл бұрын
It doesn't make any sense to change hardware settings in game. If the drivers change the settings it would mean instant incompatibility. Also there is no standard so every manufacturer creates its own settings and as such we should have a dev to do only this job. I use DD2 yes.

right from the start, I noticed that the rear springs were way too soft for the damper settings he had(the rear slow rebound, especially) which made the car oversteer that much

@@ArisDrives I did watch the whole video ;) very instructive :) maybe you can do a video about how to drive some of the cars? like the Huracan for example. or the NSX Evo, the Bentley, etc. some of the cars that almost no one takes because either they're too unstable or because they're too slow right of the bat(I've read on the forum that there's a specific technique for the NSX Evo to keep the boost up and gain more pace in general)

Really enjoying the videos. Thanks so much. I have a setup for the Porsche at Silverstone that is very close to the aggressive setup with only an adjustment to brake balance (more forward) and one click lower dif preload. the setup works great but seems to get oversteer as the laps increase. Any suggestions?

u got the fuel in front in the trunk...dont forget it...u must do 3 setups 100l, 60l and 20l. begin with 100l, if u think its good go down to 60l and u will see it doesnt work. arb in rear max 1. dont forget the rake...not to low. u need a fast moving front and stable at rear. u must understand first the Porsche...there is a lot to do...i can give u a setup it is stable and runs with me deep 59 in 1h race (without tire change)...but thats not your choice. u need to figured out which psi u drive. most of u drive Front/Rear 28...i drive Front 28, Rear 27,5

"Operational window" was said way too much for a metric we can't see. The problem was they didn't think about the whole car and in the hunt for mechanical grip, compromised their aero grip greatly.

I totally get this is a simulation but sometimes I feel the 'game' needs to be a little more accessible. Those who do not have endless amounts of time for tuning but who still wish to take part in multiplayer events AND be competitive to the extent of their actual ability, shouldn't be put at a disadvantage because they don't have that time for hours/days of trial and error. Can't there be some way, in-game, to allow players to find the 'operational window' or setup? This is a simulation!? Fine! Accepted, but have that on the track. The engineer/mechanical side of the sim though seems to me to ostracize a lot of people. It feels like most people either follow the elite like sheep, bleating their approval or they don't voice their concerns for fear of being ridiculed for a number of negative, narrow & small-minded reasons. Now, do not get me wrong, I am in no way bashing on ACC, I like it. However, it does still feel very elitist in it's approach to many aspects of its functionality, for example; lack of info or of proper explanations regarding what different elements do within the setup screens. Yes, there are 'explanations' given on the right-hand side of the setup screen but it is quite limited in what it offers. Unfortunately, this more often than not only feeds more confusion due to the 'a little knowledge is more dangerous than none at all'. So, expecting the, "..use the default setups then." excuse really doesn't cut it when you have been using said defaults to the point that you feel you are now being prevented from exploring the game further. Again making the game 'Elitist'.

I've been through 2 seasons of league racing and it became more apparent there that setups make or break your race. I find it also extremely tedious to try and tweak setups for 6days before the next race and only to find people who bought setups are faster than you by 3 secs. Even when I think I start understanding how setups work I end up more confused and revert to the standard aggressive setup and try to drive as is regardless of how it handles
