also to why the other guitars sound like their tone is rolled all the way down , is because the bridge pickup is too far north most of the time. the aristedes trem allows the bridge to be perfectly close to the pickup itself. if you look at a strandberg tremolo you can see the bridge pickup gap is too wide on the low strings making it sound more like a middle pickup than a bridge.
@PaulOuzounov3 жыл бұрын
That's a wonderful point, thank you for explaining that! What I would LOVE to do is compare an H/08R directly to a Strandberg some day!

Question: So your pink Aristides has an updated brass block, are you planning doing the same when you get an 8? Also, Floyd Rose makes the "Hot Rod" series of trems, which also have updated blocks, any word of whether Aristides will be using those instead of the standard Floyd? Great content, keep up the good work.

Yes I most certainly am! I would just need to measure to see which block would be the most appropriate! I don't have any info regarding what blocks Aristides is using for now!

Finally, the review. I watched your short demo but didn't comment. Yes, the guitar sounded really nice. But I think my Ibanez RG8 with a Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentient combo also sounds really nice. Even through my Positive Grid Spark (the "even" here isn't meant to belittle the Spark; I do actually think that thing sounds phenomenal). What I'm trying to say is, that I think nowadays almost any guitar can sound really good. Hell, an Ibanez RGMS7/RGMS8 with stock pickups sounds really good from what I've listened to so far. I personally am way more interested in playability with guitar reviews. How easy/ergonomic is the guitar to play, you know? That's where the real differences in guitars are, in my opinion. You can make anything sound awesome with the right amp settings and/or pickups and you can actually change that. You cannot change how the guitar plays and feels under your hands, however. I'm 29 years old in February next year and I started to experience a little bit of difficulty or fatigue over the last 1.5 to 2 years when playing my 8-string (27" scale, used to use 10 and sometimes 11 gauge strings on it). Recently switched to 9-gauge strings, which helped tremendously in this regard (D'addario; skinny top heavy bottom, so still a .80 for the 8th string.. I wonder how much a fanned-fret instrument like this (or one of the RGMS Ibanez models mentioned above) might help me here. Typing this comment before watching the video, btw. Will edit this once I've watched it. Love you, Paul. Stay safe. EDIT: Watched the video. So, first thing. I usually utterly hate headless designs. But over the course of the video that thing grew on me quite a bit. No idea why. She's quite the pretty lady. I like, that you mentioned the ergonomics and ease of play of this guitar and fanned-fret in general and talked about hand problems. That's why I love your reviews. You don't just talk about the "sick t0nez" but actually keep in mind, that us guitar players also still need to be able to play the guitars. Also, big congratulations for now working with Aristides, having a contract with them, or whatever you have going on with them (us being able to order Aristides guitars through you). I'm so happy for you, my man.
@PaulOuzounov3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I usually have less than good things to say about headless stuff too, and while I agree that most guitars can be made to sound good, I do wonder about sensory deprivation: closing your eyes and just listening is one of the most powerful things you can do to really understand how you are appreciating something sonically. Thanks for the well wishes!! Likewise to you man! And yeah Aristides is stellar, I think that this guitar is a total winner and I am excited to order one :-) So sympathetic vibrations is definitely the issue, and what I can tell you is that muting actually happens in two places. Sometimes on my fretting hand I overshoot the fret to make sure that I am actually fretting the string above it, whilst also muting with my picking hand as I pick really fucking hard a lot of the time so I need to have extra muting! I'm not sure if the single saddles reduce vibrations, I personally haven't noticed much of a difference :-/
@ArnoVdVelde3 жыл бұрын
Oh, had no idea they had a headless. I must say that I like that they copied/stuck close to the cutaways on the strandberg, but why put the back there! You ruin a useful rest. Wait, it seems there are two inputs? Edit: I need to be more patient. Great compromise!

Paul I have a question. Just ordered an H/07. And I'm thinking about tuning it down significantly so I can essentially have 8 string lows. Do you recommend this and any tips? I've seen a couple youtube videos of guys doing it but since I've never done it before I'm not sure about any cons (other than not having as high of a note register)
@PaulOuzounov4 ай бұрын
Hey man! I think so long as your strings will fit you absolutely can do this. That being said, I would only do this if I had 2 guitars as I think it's really important to have a 'regular' guitar as well as a low tuned beast fiddle. In terms of cons, I think you can expect your lowest notes to potentially sound flubby only because you'd have to use quite a thick string, but knowing Aristides the way I do I think it'll be alright. Mike Stringer (Spiritbox) tunes to drop F# on his 7 strings, so I think that would work. E starts to get a bit heinous but you need to test out strings. Pickups will also of course make a difference; however they can only do so much to give you attack and chug as thick strings make for that flub after all.
@LunatiqueRob2 жыл бұрын
I would be lying if I said I didn't gasp when I saw the tremolo bar on this 8-string. And the two input jacks to accommodate different positions? And the mostly hollowed out body for super lightweight? And race car yellow with black hardware? I'm in love (and lust too). Wait, do you hear that? I think it's my wallet crying in terror. (And I'm saying all this as someone who owns a Strandberg.)

You said it definitely takes more effort to use the trem, but it isnt at a tendonitis-inducing level of hard, right? Im also concerned about the tuning stability. You said its like a floyd, but I dont have one, I think I should get a floyd 6-string to decide whether I even want a trem or not. Im seriously on the fence about whammy shred because Ive heard solos cry with just hardtails. I should probably define my style some more before deciding on the extra investment in a trem aristedes. When looking through the customization on the site, i noticed they have a titanium option for like $300 more. Is that one titanium? Or just the arm? How much of a difference does it make in general? The fan looks really gentle, how much adapting did that take? Does it mess with how chords feel? Those black heavens sound glorious, I saw you say abasi fluences are the best, so Im gonna go find a demo for those.
@PaulOuzounov3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be worried about it inducing tendinitis, it's more like it's a bit 'tougher'. As for tuning stability, it's really really extremely stable! I mean an 8 string carries so many lbs per string of tension, so to be able to keep that stable is insane! I think if you prefer the feel of whammy bars, get one, and do what you can to lock it in. Otherwise, if you prefer hard tails and wouldn't really use a bar - I mean just do the thing that feels best for YOUR hands ! :-) I believe the one I played was titanium and I think it's more than the arm - but that's a good question for customer service! The feeling is super solid, and not moving, which is ideal for a whammy bar IMHO. The fan is very gentle and extremely adaptable, it seems to be the best 'general' fan I have played (and I have played MANY guitars in my life by this point with fanned frets!) Chords feel different, of course, but they already feel different because of this guitar having 8 strings. The Abasi's are absolutely my #1 pick, and yet the Lundgrens are no slouch!

"It is the best headless guitar", i work for aristides :D Dont get me wrong I will be ordering an Aristides headless 8 string early next year. It has that Aristides construction which is great. But its not like for example an Ormsby Goliath headless zou different than a normal electric guitar. I just like the ergonomics of headless gutiars. BUt sound differences arent really a thing. Except for open chords. The locking mechanism alters that sound (similar to double locking floyd rose guitars).
